The safety and security of OnStar is available to TTY (Text Telephone) users. Welcome to OnStar. OnStar TTY Guide 16989 R8 8.25.06.indd 1 8/25/06 8:59:39 AM

OnStar TTY Functions Your OnStar TTY system comes equipped with three components: OnStar TTY Interface Module (OTIM) Dial Pad (for making phone calls) TTY Device TTY Device Dial Pad OTIM Status Light Congratulations on your purchase of a GM vehicle equipped with OnStar TTY capability. OnStar has enhanced its TTY services and provides access to TTY-trained Advisors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing you have access to OnStar s safety and security features while you re on the road. 16989 R8 8.25.06.indd 2 8/25/06 8:59:42 AM

Upon installation by your dealer, your OnStar TTY system is fully functional for OnStar services. * Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with all the functions of the TTY system so that you ll be comfortable with them once you begin driving. Your OnStar TTY system provides you with access to most of the features ** described in the OnStar Subscriber Information kit in your glove box. Be sure to read the OnStar Owner Guide so that you understand all the details of how the OnStar features work. Most 2007 GM vehicles come with one year of OnStar service. Check with your dealer or an OnStar TTY Advisor to determine what service plan comes with your vehicle. Your TTY system is your communication link to trained TTY Advisors at OnStar s call centers 24/7, every day of the year. You can press the OnStar blue button, the Emergency button, and make phone calls using the dial pad. Important Note: In order to use your OnStar TTY system your vehicle must be stationary. If you initiate a call while stationary and begin moving your vehicle, the call will automatically disconnect. Your TTY device will display a call disconnected due to vehicle speed message. This feature is designed to prevent you from being distracted while driving so that you can devote your full attention to driving safely. * OnStar services require vehicle electrical system (including battery), wireless service and GPS satelite signals to be available and operating for features to funtion properly. OnStar acts as a link to existing emergency service providers. Subscriptions Service Agreement required. Call 1.877.248.2080 or visit onstar.com for OnStar s Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy and systems limitations and details. Additional information can be found in the OnStar Owner s Guide in your glove box. **Excludes OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation and Virtual Advisor. How to contact OnStar: 1. Be sure the TTY device is plugged into the right side of the OTIM in the jack identified for TTY. 2. Push the MODE button to TTY; the green status light will illuminate. If you push the MODE button a second time, the status light will go out. This indicates that the TTY system is off, and the OnStar system is in Voice mode. 3. Practice making a call to OnStar by pressing the blue OnStar button on your mirror or console. The TTY screen will display CONNECTING TO ONSTAR and the green status light will blink to indicate that a call is in progress. 4. OnStar will respond to you with a greeting and you can now correspond with the live Advisors. 5. When you fi nish your interaction with the OnStar Advisor, the Advisor will automatically disconnect the call for you. 16989 R8 8.25.06.indd 4 8/25/06 8:59:45 AM

How to make Emergency calls: 1. Your vehicle should not be moving. * Press the red OnStar emergency button and wait for the OnStar Emergency Advisors to respond. 2. The Advisor will ask you to state your emergency. 3. OnStar Emergency Advisors will contact emergency service providers and request that they respond to your location. 4. In the event that you do not respond, OnStar will contact emergency services and automatically send them to your location. If the red button is pressed in error, please inform the Advisor using your TTY device. *Note: If you must call OnStar Emergency when your vehicle is moving, the OnStar Advisor will only respond with short text messages. It is very important to stop the vehicle in a safe location whenever possible. 16989 R8 8.25.06.indd 5 8/25/06 8:59:48 AM

How to make phone calls *: 1. Using the Dial Pad, dial the number you wish to call. Then push the phone button on the Dial Pad. Always use 1 and the area code. 2. Once your call is in progress the TTY screen will display CALL and the green status light on the OTIM will blink to indicate the call is in progress. 3. When the party you called answers, you can begin your conversation by typing into the TTY device in the usual fashion. 4. To end your call, push the phone button on the Dial Pad. Note: While the TTY system is on, the phone button next to the blue button is disabled. To place a call using the voice mode, turn the TTY system off by pressing the Mode button. Then press the phone button on the three-button keypad. You ll need to purchase minutes to make calls. The OnStar system in your vehicle automatically keeps track of your calling minutes. You can check the calling minutes you have remaining by pushing the OnStar blue button and asking an Advisor. The Advisors can provide you with the vehicle phone number and can help you purchase minutes. How to answer incoming phone calls: Your vehicle has a phone number so others can call you when you are stationary. This feature will not work when your vehicle is moving. You can identify incoming calls by viewing the TTY screen for the INCOMING PERSONAL CALL message, or you can look for the green status light to blink. You can answer an incoming call by pressing the phone button on the Dial Pad. Incoming calls may also occur while you are driving. Callers will receive *OnStar Hands-Free Calling requires a Hands-Free Calling enabled vehicle, existing OnStar service contract and prepaid calling minutes. Not available in certain markets. Calls may be made to the US and Canada only. 16989 R8 8.25.06.indd 6 8/25/06 8:59:52 AM

a Driver Unavailable message. If someone called you while you were driving, you can return that call by pushing the phone button on the Dial Pad. *Note: In an emergency situation, in addition to the red emergency button on the OnStar 3-button system you can dial 9-1-1 on the dial pad while the vehicle is moving. However, due to the OnStar advisor s ability to pinpoint your location, the red emergency button is the preferred mode of communication in an emergency. Troubleshooting: If you are experiencing problems with your OnStar TTY system, please check the following: 1. Make sure the LED next to your three-button OnStar system, located either in your rearview mirror or your overhead console, is green. If the LED is not green, please turn off your vehicle s ignition, and then turn it back on. If the status light next to the three button system does not illuminate, this indicates a problem with your OnStar system. Please visit your GM dealer. 2. Make the TTY device is properly plugged into the OTIM. When the TTY device is properly plugged in, the Status LED and the Mode LED will be illuminated green. If these LEDs are not illuminated, please disconnect then reconnect the TTY device into the TTY jack, and ensure the OTIM is set to TTY mode by pressing the Mode button until the Mode LED illuminates green. If the lights are still not illuminated, please call OnStar via the TTY toll-free number (877.248.2080). Ask the TTY Advisor to ensure that your OnStar account has been activated and that you are enrolled as a TTY subscriber. 3. If you are experiencing garbled text on your TTY device, make sure the device is fully charged. If it is fully charged, there may be cellular connectivity issues affecting your call. In this case, please disconnect your call and try again in a few minutes. 16989 R8 8.25.06.indd 7 8/25/06 8:59:55 AM
