PREVENTION AND EDUCATION SERVICES Ergonomic Consultation Our Certified Assessment Specialists conduct on-site evaluations of the jobs ergonomic requirements, examining the fit between the workers and the work. The evaluation identifies the workers sizes, strength, and abilities to handle tasks, tools, problem areas, and the overall work environment. A comprehensive report is prepared that outlines potential risk factors and identifies cost-effective solutions to improve worker safety and performance and reduce and/or prevent the risk of injuries. Post Offer Screen Post Offer Screen ensures new employees posses the functional abilities to perform the essential functional requirements of their new job. This is evaluated by comparing their functional abilities to the essential job demands outlined in the (PDA) of the new job. The (POS) is a reliable tool to decrease the risk of work-place injuries. The results can be used by the employers to determine job placement, physical training needs, educational needs, ie. safe lifting techniques and safe body mechanics. Educational Sessions Research and experience have shown that Employee Education not only reduces the severity and frequency of workers compensation claims, but that it also improves employee morale and productivity. The material presentation can vary from 10-minute team meetings to full day presentation seminars. Our educational sessions can be custom designed to provide invaluable employee education programs. Educational sessions will include hands on demonstrations and training of proper body mechanics, right from the person working on a desk to those working in heavy lifting environments. Practical skills are taught and can therefore be enforced through policies in the workplace.

ASSESSMENT SERVICES Physiotherapy Assessment A Physiotherapist Assessment is used to identify the diagnosis and impairment related to the injury. A Registered Physiotherapist completes a full examination of the individual to identify the nature of the injury and to provide treatment based on best practices and to ensure goals for success are attained. Mini Functional Abilities Evaluations The Mini (FAE) is customized specifically to the client s injury and pre-injury occupation. The evaluation ranges from 1-4 hours in length. A job match is performed based on the pre-injury Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) and a return to a work program is established. The results of the mini (FAE s) are documented in a concise report outlining the individual s specific musculoskeletal impairments, level of functioning and consistency of effort. Based on the testing results, recommendations and guidance of further management of the client will be determined. Functional Abilities Evaluations For more complex cases, a full Functional Abilities Evaluation is performed. The (FAE ) entails a comprehensive series of performance-based tests that help objectively measure injured employees physical abilities. This evaluation ranges from 4-6 hours in length and can be offered in one or two day sessions. Standardized tests and objective measures are used to determine the client s current level of physical functioning, endurance, reliability of effort, and impairments related to activities of daily living and/or work activities. When a physical demands analysis (PDA) is supplied, a simulation of their everyday job demands is performed and included in the evaluation report. Based on the interpretation of the standardized test results a job match is performed based on the pre-injury Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) and an in depth return to work plan is established. In addition the FAE will give specific recommendations on treatment interventions and support that will be required to transition the client back to work in their pre-injury occupation successfully. For example, ergonomic assessment, job shadowing, a simulated work hardening program and/or body mechanics education. All of our Functional Abilities Evaluations and Functional Assessments are conducted by Registered Physiotherapists who are certified Functional Testing and Ergonomics.

ASSESSMENT SERVICES Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) Our team evaluates all of the physical and environmental demand components of all essential and non-essential tasks of a job; we establish what the job is, in it s entirety. A complete analysis is conducted to determine the compatibility between the worker and a specific job. The job is examined by breaking down the job in individual tasks. The environmental conditions will be examined as well as the use of machines, equipment, tools, work aids, and physical demands of each task. Ergonomic Assessment of the Work Site Our Ergonomic Assessment Specialists conduct on-site evaluations of the jobs ergonomic requirements. It identifies the environmental and physical influences that affect a worker s ability to safely perform their job duties. An analysis is performed for both an Ergonomic Assessment as well as a Physical Demands Analysis, depending on the employers needs. Recommendations may include: modifications to the equipment of work station, changes to the worker s habits, assistive devices, or return to work planning.

TREATMENT SERVICES Physiotherapy Treatment Programs The treatment programs are designed to provide physiotherapy to employees who have been injured but are still able to perform their regular work duties. Our health care professionals diagnose and provide hands-on physiotherapy treatment and an active exercise program (at home or in-clinic) to address movement dysfunction. Attention is given to symptom relief, while ensuring employees maintain their work status. Physiotherapists also plan and implement individual treatment programs to prevent physical disabilities. Functional Treatment Programs Work-Fit provides an active physical and functional rehabilitation program to employees who have been injured and are unable to perform the full complement of their job demands. The treatment includes hands-on physiotherapy, and active exercise program (stretching, strengthening, and cardiovascular), work simulation, education and goal setting. The focus of these programs is to return the employee to their pre-injury level of functioning. Work Hardening Programs This program provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, goal oriented treatment program to employees who are unable to return to their pre-injury job. This type of program is indicated for employees unable to advance from modified duties, or when an on-site gradual return to work is not available, safe, or feasible. It is also appropriate for an employee who has had repeated unsuccessful return to work attempts. These structured programs focus on work simulation and education. The treatment can vary from two hours to eight hours to eight hours per day. When possible, the clinic sessions are combined with an on-site gradual return to work plan or an off site test of return to work.

TREATMENT SERVICES Return to Work Planning Work-Fit s trained staff will assist with return to work planning for individuals that require extra support during the return to work process. All return to work plans will include ongoing communication with relevant parties and a written gradual return to work plan. Team conferences will be attended and weekly tracking can be conducted and conveyed in a written report. Education and tips will be provided in writing to the injured worker to ensure success. Job Shadow/Coaching Job Shadowing/Coaching is essential in those cases where injured workers are at high risk for re-injury. A job shadow evaluation can be conducted to give the worker proper education and specific instructions on how to complete the essential demands of their job safely. An ergonomic assessment can be carried out at the same time to identify any risks that may assist in preventing future injuries.
