Message from the UNFPA Malawi Representative As I look back at the year 2017, it has been an exciting moment of our time. There have been numerous milestones in this country that have had a great bearing on our mandate. Among them include the constitutional amendment of the marriage age to outlaw child marriages; Malawis participation at the 2020 London Family Planning summit, launch of the AU theme in Malawi are part of the many achievements that Malawi has made. The release of the 2015-16 MDHS also highlights a number of improvements on SRHR. These achievements create a foundation for effective and evidence based programming and on our efficient support towards service delivery. As for UNFPA, we launched our new global strategic plan (2018-2021) that focuses on three transformative results as below. 2018 Population and Housing Census Evaluation of the 7th Country programme and the development of the 8th Country programme (2019-2023) We are anxiously waiting for the evaluation results of the 7th Country Programme and also ready to move into the next generation of programming to ensure we are better aligned to global and country outcomes. The Malawi UNDAF, HSSP II and MGDSIII among others remain the main resource frameworks to guide our planning and support. The work ahead is more than what we have done before and requires embracing innovation, creativity and focus. In this way, we will leave no one behind. I wish you a successful 2018. End unmet need for family planning End preventable maternal deaths End gender based violence and harmful cultural practices In addition, our strength in collecting and analyzing population data will continue to inform everything we do and will ensure that everyone is accounted for in the pursuit of these three ambitious aims and of global goals for sustainable development. Dan Odallo Therefore, as we move towards 2030 by planning for the year 2018, we remain focused on the above results that will transform Malawi. We look at 2018 as pivotal for us because of three significant events demand from all of us in many ways. These include: 4
