Mayer-Davis) December 2002-November 2006 NIH/NIDDK, Subcontract to University of Colorado Defining Diabetes in Youth Purpose: This is a study of the demographic, behavioral, metabolic, and genetic characteristics of various types of diabetes that occur in children and to evaluate, in a case-control design, risk factors for the various types of diabetes in youth with a focus on etiology of type 2 diabetes in this age group. The study is an ancillary study to the SEARCH national project. There is no scientific or budgetary overlap. Role: Graduate Research Assistant 1R01 DK077131-01 (PI: Angela Liese) January 2007-December 2009 NIH Spatial epidemiology of diabetes in the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study Purpose: This ancillary study to the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study and the SEARCH Case Control study aims to (1) describe and map the spatial distribution of incident pediatric diabetes; (2) evaluate the association of diabetes incidence with geographic and neighborhood characteristics; (3) to explore the extent to which geographical and neighborhood characteristics and established individuallevel risk factors are similar or different with respect to their influence of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
