Approximately 7.4 million people including 3.8 million women count on us. And we count on every one of our Race sponsors to help ensure we have the resources to serve them. Since our first Race for the Cure in 1991, Komen Philadelphia has: Provided 167,000 free mammograms Distributed $58 million in grants to local hospitals and organizations Contributed $23.5 million to research While our community has made great progress in increasing early-detection practices, too many women continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer at late stages, when treatment is less effective and more invasive. In some populations we serve, the number of late-stage detections is actually on the rise.
