All proceeds from the Gala of the Arts will benefit the Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Program for the city of Chicago and surrounding communities in Cook and Lake counties. The Emergency Assistance Department provides assistance to individuals and families whose lives have been disrupted by unplanned events such as domestic crisis, fire, unemployment, or relocation, or who for any reason are in need of emergency food and/or clothing. This assistance is provided regardless of race, religion, nationality or gender. Without the assistance provided by Catholic Charities, some of the most vulnerable people in our area would have nowhere else to turn for basic human needs. With demand for services continuing to grow, Catholic Charities needs help more than ever to support these vital programs. Enjoy an art show featuring professional artists, while sipping cocktails over a dazzling sunset. The exhibiting artists represent various media, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, jewelry, glass and photography, to name a few. There will surely be something for everyone s taste, and all artists have generously agreed to donate at least 50% of their proceeds to Catholic Charities. Following a delicious dinner, the real fun begins as the featured entertainment takes the stage to make some Beautiful Noise. We will sing Sweet Caroline and dance the night away to Cracklin Rosie, while a fabulous Diamond Raffle continues to add to the fun. EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE DEPARTMENT Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Department provides basic human needs. Food is the most requested basic need. Other services include emergency financial assistance, benefits screening, clothing, emergency shelter, short-term case management, advocacy, and referrals. The Illinois unemployment rate is currently among the highest in the nation. The majority of jobs that pay family-supporting wages now require some amount of postsecondary education, training, or certification. This creates a significant obstacle for our clients who have less education or work experience. Last year, the Emergency Assistance Department served 2.2 million meals through our nine food pantries and screened nearly 1,500 people for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The department also received 100,316 requests for rent and utility assistance. Without the assistance provided by Catholic Charities, some of the most vulnerable people in our area would have nowhere else to turn for basic human needs.
