WHO S PRESENTING? Dr. Tina Garby has a Bachelor s Degree in Psychology and a Master s and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology. She is in private practice as a clinical and forensic psychologist. Dr. Garby has worked in the mental health field including victims of violent and sexual crimes for 24 years and has worked with sex offenders for 20 years. She conducts evaluations and treatment for sex offenders pre-adjudication and on probation. She has presented at national and international conferences on risk assessments for sex offenders in Arizona and on Internet sex offenders. Dr. Garby has also conducted research, published and presented at two APPA s on vicarious trauma for probation officers working with high risk populations, including sex offenders. 2

Dan Caputo is the owner and operator of Northland Investigations, LLC. He is a seasoned law enforcement investigator whose experience and vision has enlightened many private, commercial, and governmental entities. Dan has been conducting criminal investigations since 1998. He was trained as a law enforcement officer by the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy (ALEA) in Phoenix, AZ, where he was elected by his peers to be the class valedictorian. As an investigator, he has excelled in interview and interrogation tactics. As a polygraph examiner, Dan has conducted thousands of examinations for a multitude of law enforcement agencies, probation departments, and private attorneys. His vast polygraph experience includes pre-employment, criminal and domestic cases, legal cases, employee issues, internal affairs, Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT), and event validation. Dan received his polygraph accreditation from the Arizona School of Polygraph Science, where he finished academically at the top of his class. Dan was trained by Behavior Measures Institute in Arlington, TX, for PCSOT and is certified by the American Polygraph Association to conduct PCSOT examinations. Dan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University. Dan is a member of the American Polygraph Association (APA), The National Polygraph Association (NPA), The Arizona Polygraph Association (AZPA), the American Association of Police Polygraphists (AAPP), and the Associate for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA). Dan has held offices with the AZPA, including President and Vice President. 3

Detective Daniel Barry has been an officer with the Tucson Police Department for over 15 years. He was hired on August 25th, 2000 and attended the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Center for 16 weeks of Basic Law Enforcement Training. He also attended a 5 week post-basic course, where he learned about basic law enforcement techniques as they apply to the Tucson Police Department. Detective Barry then participated in a 16 week Field Training program where he learned to become a law enforcement officer from various senior officers. Detective Barry was initially assigned to the Midtown Division of the Tucson Police Department, enforcing the law throughout the city. He found a specialty in traffic and Impaired Driving investigations and obtain certifications to administer Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Evaluations in the field. He eventually attended one week of training to become a certified Drug Recognition Expert and given training to recognize the effects of certain drugs on the body, especially when it came to the intake of these drugs while driving. In February 2007, Detective Barry was promoted to the rank of Detective. He attended a basic detective training and was assigned to the Child Sexual Abuse unit. In that capacity, he investigated sex crimes committed against minors in the city limits of Tucson. While in that assignment, he received training from medical officials on recognition of injuries to minors involved in sexual assaults. This was the same training provided to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners. While assigned to the Child Sexual Abuse Unit, Detective Barry used his knowledge of technology to assist with investigations involving the use of such media. He began working with the department s Internet Predator team part time. Detective Barry and another detective began attending training and eventually helped in the development of the department s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit, an affiliate of the Arizona ICAC Task Force in conjunction with the Department of Justice s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Detective Barry was instrumental in securing a $250,000.00 federal grant to start the department s program. In 2010, Detective Barry began working in the Tucson Police Department s ICAC unit full time and since that time has received well over 350 hours of training related to online investigations of peer-to-peer file sharing networks, working computer forensics, online enticement and undercover operations and operation of various tools used to investigate illegal online activity related to the sexual exploitation of minors. 4
