Our annual Lip Sync Battle for mental health challenges student groups within Canadian academic schools (high schools, colleges, and universities) or dance/sport schools to produce, film, and post a lip-synced music video that shares a positive and empowering message. Groups can choose their own song provided that the lyrics share a positive mental health message (see sampling of suggested songs below). While a winner will be awarded at the end of the campaign, the main goal of the campaign is to encourage students producing the lip-synced videos to think about those who may be suffering from anxiety, depression, bullying, etc., and to share a supportive message with their peers. WHAT S #YellowIsForHello? #YellowIsForHello is a student-focused mental health campaign run by The Lucas Fiorella Friendship Bench. The campaign, centered around our iconic yellow Friendship Bench, encourages open and honest peer-to-peer conversations about mental health. The aim is to support awareness efforts that educate students on the typical causes and symptoms of student stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as preventative measures to avoid or manage those. Our goal is to promote more conversation about mental health among students, reduce the stigma,
and connect more students to available on-campus and in-community support resources. WHO CAN REGISTER? This campaign is open to any Canadian secondary or post-secondary school, including dance schools, sport teams or similar. Frankly, any student groups and/or fraternities/sororities are welcome to register. More than one team/entry can be submitted from a school. Only teams registered for the campaign will be eligible. WHERE DO I REGISTER? Student groups or schools who wish to register must do so online: https://yellowisforhello.org/the-yellowisforhello-lip-sync-battle/ WHERE DO WE POST THE VIDEO? Only registered schools will be permitted to upload a video. Links to upload videos will be supplied to team leaders who register their school at https://yellowisforhello.org/theyellowisforhello-lip-sync-battle/. All submitted videos will be added to a campaign page on the YellowIsForHello website, which can then be viewed/shared/voted on by the public. Do not post videos on your social media networks initially; teams will want to ensure they drive visits to the campaign page to maximize the views/votes received on this page (see voting below). All videos uploaded become the property of The Lucas Fiorella Friendship Bench and the #YellowIsForHello campaign. No compensation financial or otherwise is offered. WHAT SONGS CAN WE USE? Your team/school has the option to pick any song it wishes to use; however, it s a good idea to follow these guidelines: - Do the lyrics provide a positive, supportive message to fellow students or teammates who may be suffering from bullying, anxiety, and/or depression? - Do the lyrics inspire inclusivity of all people regardless of gender, religion, and/or sexual orientation?
- Are the lyrics appropriate for young teens as well as older students? Here is a short list of songs you may wish to consider. WHAT DOES THE WINNER GET? The reason we hope everyone participates in this campaign is to send a message of hope, strength, inclusion, and empathy to fellow students. That should be reward in and of itself, no?! However, the video selected as the 2017/18 #YellowIsForHello Lip Sync Battle Winner will have the video - and photo of the students involved - featured in the year s #YellowIsForHello mental health awareness campaigns. Also, the winning team will receive the #YellowIsForHello Lip Sync National Trophy to be displayed at the school, and a yellow Friendship Bench for their school. The school may accept the bench or donate it to another school in Canada. MY QUESTION IS NOT ANSWERED. Still have questions? Please reach out to us at info@thefriendshipbench.org
