With more than 25 facilities and 800 employees, Oriana House has a significant role in the rehabilitation, recovery, and safe community reentry of thousands of individuals in Ohio every year. Our dedicated staff of licensed treatment counselors, experienced program managers and residential staff, instructors, caseworkers, certified recovery coaches, medical professionals, intake specialists, and many others work diligently with all clients to determine their programming needs and help them achieve their established goals. Addressing needs such as corrective thinking, behavioral modifications, employment, education, and substance abuse treatment helps to stop the criminal and/or addiction-related behavior. For many in the criminal justice system, preventing future crime and re-arrest after release is impossible without treating the addiction. Oriana House operates in four Ohio service areas: Summit County Region Cuyahoga County Region North Central Ohio Region Southeastern Ohio Region The benefits of community corrections include: Increases offender accountability. Addresses substance abuse, employment, education, and other issues prior to release. Reduces probability of recidivism by addressing actions, values, attitudes, and beliefs associated with re-offending. Allows appropriate offenders to work while serving a sanction. This enables them to pay taxes, program fees, restitution, court costs, and child support if ordered. Alleviates jail and prison overcrowding. Improves the community integration process for offenders and their families. Provides cost-effective placement options for appropriate offenders. The benefits of drug and alcohol treatment include: Emphasizes the need for sober living environments, mentors, social circles, etc. Sobriety and improved health of individuals. Community Corrections Research-Based ming Oriana House s community corrections programs are changing offender behavior using practices that incorporate the most recent, comprehensive research available. Caseworkers help clients develop an individualized program plan and staff build rapport to help offenders make positive changes. A combination of teaching techniques includes modeling appropriate behavior; reinforcing desired actions and deterring unwanted actions; and role playing problem-solving and relationship-building skills. All Oriana House clients are subject to regular and random drug and alcohol testing. Offenders also are responsible for financial obligations such as child support, fines, and restitution. The level and scope of programming for each client is determined using a statewide, standardized assessment system. Identified needs such as addiction treatment, employment, coping skills, parenting classes, and more are then addressed. By targeting dysfunctional thought patterns, Oriana House s programming helps offenders change the way they act by changing the way they think. Residential Community Corrections Driver Intervention s - A sanction for DUI offenders that focuses on substance abuse, education, and treatment. Halfway House s - A rehabilitative program, up to six months in length, that emphasizes successful reentry into the community by changing offenders behaviors. Specialized programming is available for offenders with mental illness or developmental disabilities. Work Release - A sanction that allows offenders community access for work, school, or select activities. Medication Assisted - A therapeutic treatment program, primarily using the prescription medication Vivitrol, for opioid dependent individuals. Community Based Correctional Facilities - CBCFs provide assessments, treatment, individualized programming, and highly structured supervision to felony offenders. Nonresidential Community Corrections Day Reporting - Individuals on Day Reporting are required to report regularly to their caseworker and follow a strict program plan. Electronic Monitoring Services- Offenders wear an ankle bracelet, 24/7, that alerts a web-based monitoring system if the bracelet is tampered with or removed. An in-home breathalyzer or random drug and alcohol testing can be a required part of this sanction. Various levels of monitoring are available: Home Incarceration monitors when a person leaves or enters his or her house. GPS technology records data on the whereabouts of an offender. SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor) provides monitoring of offenders to determine, measure, and track if they use alcohol. Remote Breath Alcohol Monitoring allows for verifiable testing from anywhere. Diversion s - Eligible first-time offenders participate in sessions addressing the behaviors and issues that led to their offense. Upon program completion, charges are dismissed, eliminating the record of a criminal conviction. Pretrial Supervision - Provides supervision for clients released from jail with a criminal case pending. The program addresses jail overcrowding and helps to ensure that defendants make their court appearances. Specialty Courts - Oriana House provides case management and substance abuse treatment to individuals involved in these courts which handle specific types of cases. Drug Courts provide misdemeanor and felony offenders with intensive judicial supervision; meeting regularly for dispositions, progress reviews, rewards and sanctions. Family Intervention Court provides supervision and counseling services for adults charged with or convicted of domestic violence who qualify for probation or other community placement. Reentry Court facilitates offenders successful return to their community upon release from prison. Addressing needs such as behavioral, employment, education, and substance abuse treatment helps stop the cycle of crime.
