Prepare a thorough summary of clinical, serologic and radiographic findings of rheumatology consult patients. Supervise and teach students and residents (PGY1-3) assigned to the rheumatology consultation service. Round daily, when rotating on the consult service, with the rheumatology attending and other members of the rheumatology consultation service. Coordinate the diagnostic and therapeutic services provided to rheumatology inpatients and outpatients. Document the findings and recommendations of the rheumatology consultation team in the electronic medical record (initial full consultation) and in patient charts. fellow and faculty member regarding outpatient visits to the referring physician(s). inpatient consultation team to the referring physician(s). Participate in subspecialty rotations to become familiar with aspects of pediatric Rheumatology, Private Practice Rotation, and musculoskeletal radiology. Prepare and deliver educational talks for Rheumatology Division Rounds and, as requested by DOM, for the Noon Conference. Gain teaching experience during time spent as teaching fellow by giving instruction on the musculoskeletal examination, and other didactic sessions with rotating medical students and residents. Participate in research activities mentored by Rheumatology faculty or other faculty from collaborating divisions. Fellows are expected to individually perform a clinical or basic research project. In addition, fellows will participate in a quality improvement project in collaboration with their fellowship peers. Organize and present their research or a case report/case series with literature review at the Rheumatology state society (SCRS) annual meeting each year. Begin to develop skills as a clinical or basic investigator, and strive to present data at national meetings and publish in the medical literature. Become proficient in performing soft tissue and joint injections, arthrocentesis and the interpretation of synovial fluid analysis. Acquire the knowledge to interpret radiographic and other imaging studies: nailfold capillary microscopy, nerve conduction velocity/electromyography/musculoskeletal ultrasound and skin, muscle, synovial biopsy.
