Testard. In this centre for In vitro fertilization I was concerned with embryo implantation after FIV and embryo transfer. There I could ascertain, using electronic microscopy by D. Martel, the uterine implantation period, i.e. the 24-hour susceptibility phase of endometrium, a phase which comes later than embryo replacement in embryo-transfer. Due to this fact, embryo implantation failure might be caused. Further developments in my findings were impossible after my return to Italy, as no FIV Centres existed there. As to the obstetrical-gynaecological field in France, I could also work with the University Hospital of Saint Etienne, specifically in its Endocrinology and Diabetes Studies Division. There, my research was based on testing insulin tolerance as to different

endocrinological pathologies, to osteocalcins and insulin resistance, and to ovarian polycystic disease. My knowledge about chronobiology allowed for new endocrinological interpretations. Thanks to a scholarship obtained by CNR NATO, I could work within the Chronobiology Laboratories, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, in 1986 (Director, Prof. Halberg), a laboratory with which I am still collaborating. My research there consisted in observing pressure data in pregnancy as related to gestosis risk and to intrauterine growth retardation. Moreover, I found that a correlation existed between growth retardation and some hormones, such as atrial natriuretic peptide. During my last stay at the Chronobiology Laboratories and my studies there with Professor Halberg, we analysed the circadian and circannual values of melatonin in collaboration with NASA data, which allowed us to determine that this hormone connects human fetal growth and the earth s geomagnetic fields. The main findings concerned intrauterine life, in that it can modulate genetic expression, and drug consumption by the mother, which can modify the fetal genetic expression, e.g. hypertension expression. I actually work on clock genes expression and cancer risk and clock genes methylation and prenatal programming I also took part in a research project, BIOCOS, directed by Prof. Halberg, Halberg Chronobiology Center, University of Minnesota, supported by U.S. Public Health Service (GM-13981); National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health (HL-40650), University of Minnesota, Earl Bakken Fund and Dr. Betty Sullivan Fund. My PhD dissertation in 1986 dealt with the changes in body pattern of infertile women. I worked on this project for five years and obtained the maximum score on my final dissertation. It is a borderline field of research in which I can still work, thanks to my collaboration with Paris VII University. Here, I have been teaching gynaecologists since 1993, both in their Specialty Course of Gynaecological Psychosomatic Medicine, and all the correlated educational activities, such as theoretical and practical lessons, ateliers, case discussion, and final dissertations. My original contribution concerns the notion of body pattern as the fundamental basis of the ego, and the psychosomatic pathologies, as changes of the body pattern. A notion I could fully express in books on the subject, that is, Il bambino inconcepibile (The Inconceivable Baby), edited by Franco Angeli, Milan, 1998, translated into French as Femmes infertiles in 2006 by In Press Edition, Paris; Il trattato di ginecologia psicosomatica (Treatise of Gynaecological Psychosomatic Medicine), in collaboration with S. Mimoun Flammarion, Paris, edited by Franco Angeli, Milan, 2003; and Il nodo della psicosomatica (The Puzzle of Psychosomatic Medicine) by Franco Angeli Edition, Milan, under publication. My last research deals with PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder following childbirth, in collaboration with Università Cattolica of Milan.

Methodologies for the analysis of sexual abuse among children This research allowed me to practise my competence as an expert to the public prosecutor in many Italian court cases and as a teacher and instructor to Italian gynaecologists and paediatricians.
