NEXT MEETING 6.00pm 4 May TERM 2 Venue: Staff Room Upcoming Election Day BBQ Saturday, 28 March Volunteers needed for coffee, BBQ, cake and raffle stalls. Fill in the colored note your kids hopefully took home on Friday or send us an email listing your availablity. Welcome to Tighes Hill P.S. P&C 2015 Welcome to our second newsletter for the year, a place you can catch up on what, when and how you can participate in P & C activities. This year we started with a fun night out at the Grain Store for our Welcome night. We had over 40 parents come along to an evening of sampling hearty ales washed down by delicious finger food. It was especially nice to see all the new kinder parents come along to meet some fellow parents. A huge thank you goes out too Kristy and Corey and all their staff at The Grain store for generously hosting us and providing the food and drinks free of charge. Also congratulations to the raffle winners and thanks to Rockmybaby babysitting, Kris Candles and The Village Restaurant for donating raffle prizes. With such a fun night had by all more social night's have been suggested - so keep your eye on our Facebook page TighesHillPandC for when we decide on a venue and date. Drop us a line with any suggestions you may have on a local venue. We also held one of our wonderful working bees up at the school, a great day to come and hang out with other parents and children from the school and make a hands on difference in improving the school environment. Some fresh coffee and cake is always on hand to enjoy. However, it's not all beer, coffee and skittles at the P&C. Our Environment, Canteen and Fundraising groups have been busy organising upcoming fundraising events, working bee's, scouring the net for grants, progressing with the art cave, getting the garden club up and running and continuing to provide a fantastic canteen for our kids. Check out the following pages of what each group is up to and see where you might be able to lend a hand, add some expertise or some know how. JOIN THE CONVERSATION Jump on our Facebook page TighesHillPandC and catch all the latest updates. If you would like to help out, want information or have some suggestions then you can email us at. Join us for a meeting on the 3rd and 8th week of each term up at the school. Regards, Benjamin Collis Tighes Hill Public School P&C President

Election Day Fundraiser Saturday 28 March Volunteers needed - contact us to offer you availability. Easter Hat Parade Fundraiser Thu 2 April Volunteers needed for BBQ & Sushi stall Fundraising Group Meeting Wed 29 April @ The Beauford Hotel Contact the P&C for further details. Mothers day Stall Friday 8 May Volunteers needed to sort donations & run the stall FUNDRAISING GROUP The first fundraising event for the year will be held for the upcoming State Election on Saturday, 28 March. We are planning to undertake the following activities: Bacon & egg rolls (breakfast) Sausage sizzle & Vegetarian option (lunch) Cake stall (start practicing your baking, we will be needing cake donations!) Coffee Raffles To offer your support, fill out the colored note that (hopefully) your kids took home on Friday and return to the school office. Otherwise, send us a message at or on Facebook TighesHillPandC with your availability to help. Not only is it a great way to meet fellow parents and members of your community, you might even spot a prominent pollie (though we're not sure if that will attract or repel volunteers...). The Easter Hat Parade is a fun event for parents to join the kids in parading their Easter hat creations. The P&C will be supporting the day with a BBQ & Sushi stall. Come join us on the day and get in touch if you are able to help out with the BBQ/Sushi stall. The Mothers Day stall provides an opportunity for all the students to buy an inexpensive present for mum. To make this a success we are looking for: Volunteers to sort & price presents on Wednesday 6 May. Volunteers to run the Mothers Day Stall on Friday 8 May. Gift donations for the stall If possible it would be great to have Dads fill these volunteer positions!

Environment Group Meeting Date: To be confirmed Meeting will plan for upcoming working bee and further develop a playground masterplan Next Working Bee: Term 2: Date to be confirmed. Bring a hat & gloves ENVIRONMENT GROUP The Environment Group held their first quarterly working bee in March. Some of the great work completed included: Installation of shelving and building tables for the art cave located adjacent to the school garden. Weeding and mulching, particularly around the school border and reconciliation garden. Giving the citrus trees a bit of love (including moving one poor lime tree that had a demountable plonked on top of it!). Another handy project recently completed was the installation of the lock-up cage in the lower playground. This provides vital storage space for our growing school. Some ongoing programs run by the Environment Group are: Collection of fruit break scraps for composting Running the garden club. Get in touch if you would like to help run these sessions on any day from 11:10am or 1:20pm. We are preparing designs to allow better access for the school garden. Feel free to make contact if you have any suggestions or would like to help out. Master Plan - Come along to the next Environment Group meeting to share your vision on how to make the THPS playground a welcoming, fun and engaging space.

Canteen Committee Meeting Monday, 4 May, 5:30pm Venue: Staff Room CANTEEN GROUP The canteen continues to provide healthy choices for the kids and is soon due to introduce some seasonal changes. Soup will be available for the kids starting from term 2. The canteen has recently had an oven and Rangehood installed which will allow us to prepare a greater variety of meals than was previously possible. Our canteen has been visited by 'Good Food for Kids' and had the menu categorised into red (occasional foods), amber (choose carefully) and green (fill the menu). We pleased to say that almost all of our canteen menu fitted into the green and amber categories. We will pass on feedback from the review when it arrives. See www.goodforkids.nsw.gov.au for further details. Volunteers are always welcome at the Canteen. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and see a different side to the school. Even if you only have an hour to spare, this could mean the difference between the Canteen staying open for the day or having to close. So get in touch to join in! If you would like to contribute to the direction of our Canteen then come along to a Canteen Group meeting, which are usually held half an hour prior to P&C meetings. The canteen will be only be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Term 2. Canteen volunteers required urgently. If you can spare just 3 hours in your day to keep our canteen open. Please contact the P&C to lend your support.

SUPPORTERS CLUB The Tighes Hill P &C would like to thank the following business for their support. If you have an opportunity support the businesses that support us, please do so.
