Wedge Elevator Designed to remove the Upper Premolar IV (the carnassial) without the need to split the tooth. The tooth roots are elevated in the usual manner using carnivore elevators or luxators. The tip of the wedge is drilled through between rostral and posterior roots. The blade of the instrument is then worked under the tooth. As the width of the blade increases the tooth is forced from the alveolus. The triangular cross section of the blade supports the structure of the tooth during extraction. In relatively healthy roots rupture is very difficult, requiring great force. Rupture (and therefore extraction) is best achieved by forcing an elevator or luxator into the periodontal space.
