International Symposium on FERTILITY PRESERVATION Basic Research to Clinical Applications 28 th February and 1 st March 2015 Kasturba Medical College, Manipal-576104, India First Announcement

Invitation Fertility preservation is a rapidly expanding area both in the laboratory and clinical practice. Fertility impairment due to cancer or its treatment is a significant consideration for many paediatric, adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery can impair the future fertility of men, women and children with cancer. Though oncofertility has gained more attention in western countries, there is a lack of awareness about this option in India. Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University and Manipal Association of Clinical Embryologists (MACE) Manipal are jointly organizing this International Symposium on Fertility Preservation. The primary objective of this symposium is to bring together professionals from various specialities, improve knowledge on fertility preservation, and raise awareness of oncofertility. The symposium will bring leading experts from this field together to discuss, debate, and disseminate knowledge for the advancement of fertility preservation. This meeting will benefit reproductive endocrinologists, oncologists, gynaecologists, psychologists, embryologists, reproductive biologists, basic scientists, supporting staff such as oncology nurses and social workers interested in fertility preservation. It is expected that the meeting will create a platform for the participants to learn about cutting-edge clinical and research developments in the area of fertility preservation and form a network with eminent experts to strengthen inter-disciplinary collaborations. Well-known national and international experts are participating in the meeting to share their wealth of knowledge. We sincerely hope that you will join us in this event and make it a grand success. International Experts Richard Anderson, Scotland Richard A Anderson, is the Elsie Inglis Professor of Clinical Reproductive Science and Head of Section, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Edinburgh. Prof. Anderson leads the Edinburgh Fertility Preservation Group, which was the first in the world to introduce ovarian tissue cryopreservation to women and children suffering from cancer. His research primarily encompasses both laboratory and clinical aspects of infertility and reproductive endocrinology with specific focus on the impact of chemotherapy on ovarian function. His team is also striving to establish techniques to support human oocyte development in vitro. He is the Deputy Coordinator of the ESHRE SIG Reproductive Endocrinology, a member of the ESHRE Task Force on Fertility Preservation and a member of the ESHRE Guideline Development Group on Premature Ovarian Insufficiency. Mats Brannstrom, Sweden Mats Brannstrom is a Professor and Chairman, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Gothenburg. Prof. Brännström is a pioneer in the field of uterine transplantation. He is known worldwide as the key researcher behind the very first baby born after successful uterus transplantation as a treatment for absolute uterine factor infertility (AUFI). His breakthrough has given hope to millions of women who suffer from AUFI or lose their uterus due to uterine cancers. Prof. Brännström and his team are presently working relentlessly towards the development of a bioengineered uterus that may replace the need for a live uterus donor, and could prevent the required immunosuppressive treatment.

Stefan Schlatt, Germany Prof Stefan Schlatt is the Director, Centre for Reproductive Medicine and Andrology, University hospital Münster, Germany. Prof Stefan Schlatt harbors a special interest in fertility preservation for oncological pediatric patients and in vitro spermatogenesis. More specifically his investigations are focused on sprematogonial stem cells as a possible source for the production of transgenic offspring and their application in fertility preservation in sub and infertile men. He is diligently working towards the development of various approaches to study the proliferation and differentiation pattern of testicular cells. Prof Schlatt and his team have already developed rodent and non-human primate models for germ cell transplantation and testicular tissue grafting. Riccardo Talevi, Italy Professor Talevi is the Scientific coordinator of IVF Public Hospital Moscati Avellino, and Professor of Reproductive Biology at University of Naples Federico II, Italy Prof Talevi has vast expertise and research experience in the field of assisted reproduction technology and fertility preservation. His research is devoted to understanding the consequences of ovarian tissue cryopreservation on the biological structure of oocyte and ovary. He is the past President of Italian Society of Embryology Reproduction and Research and past president of Federation of Italian Scientific Society of reproduction.

Topics Cancer treatment and fertility impairment Current methods of fertility preservation Patient selection and counselling for fertility preservation Fertility considerations in prepubertal malignancies Surgical techniques in oncofertility Experimental and clinical approaches in protecting the gonadal damage Ovarian stimulation in cancer patients Oocyte, ovarian tissue and testicular tissue cryopreservation in Oncofertility Laboratory techniques Free papers and posters Free papers and posters from young researchers and clinicians in various areas of cancer biology, clinical oncology, reproductive biology are invited.
