Susan B. Anthony Project Safety Healing Growth Business Sponsorship Opportunities Together, we can do great things
Meet Our Founders In 1982, a group of 14 concerned local citizens held their first meeting to identify the need for crisis services for battered women. Polly Doremus and Gillian Hanna began noticing female colleagues coming to work bruised and decided to act. They, along with the other 12 concerned citizens, Polly & Gillian passed around a hat and gathered $35 to begin what would later become SBAP. They applied for a grant and, by 1983, had secured a temporary office space where they eventually set up a crisis line run by trained volunteers. Today, Susan B. Anthony Project provides domestic and sexual violence services to 20 towns in northwest Connecticut. Services include both crisis intervention and prevention education and impact over 2,000 people each year.
Together, we can do great things. We live in a hard working community, full of dedicated, industrious and caring people who share an unequivocal commitment to forever better the towns and neighborhoods we all call home. Sadly, our communities face a growing struggle that threatens everything we work so hard to grow and protect our homes, our businesses, our well-being, our loved ones. This threat is called violence physical, verbal, emotional, sexual and it is not specific to any one group, zip code, industry, or neighborhood. It is all around us and it affects us all. We recognize that you work hard each day to maintain the highest standard in your work place and in your community. We do the same. We share the same goal provide those who seek our services with the best that we can possibly offer. Collectively, our success and the success of our community is strengthened when we work together toward this shared goal. We invite you to join our diverse and transformational family of partnerships which promotes a safer, more positive and cooperative community for all of us. Together, we can do great things. 1
