Counseling Patients Counsel patients to know that medications and foods that may interfere with absorption. Do not eat within 1 hour of taking thyroid medications. Do not take antacids, iron, calcium or fiber supplements within 4 hours of taking thyroid medications. Tell your doctor about other medications you take which may also interfere with the absorption (bile acid sequestrants, sertraline, sucralfate, phosphate binders).
