2018

Dear Members: Club Member Use of Range 1 ISSUE: During a recent meeting, it was brought to Club Exec board and membership attention that a Club member was upset that he could not access the interior of the Highpower shed with a Club key. He wanted access to the shed to get a target carrier and/or a paper target. It is noted that paper targets are not provided by the Club, target carriers have and continue to be provided by the Club. On March 30, 2016, the Highpower Committee made a presentation to the Exec Committee and explained that they had concerns with general Club member access to the Highpower shed. Those concerns included: instances where new targets prepared for a match had been shot up and left in a condition that made them unusable for the match, staples left in targets are a safety hazard because of bullet strikes, staples left in targets snagging pit workers fingers, and supplies disappearing from the Highpower shed. PAST EXEC BOARD ACTION: The Club s March 30, 2016 minutes indicate the Highpower committee proposed and the Exec Committee approved Highpower s plan to facilitate control of target carriers and paper targets and other Highpower supplies while providing Club member use of Range 1. Exec Board approval resulted in access to the interior of the Highpower shed being controlled by a combination lock. CLUB MEMBERS ARE REMINDED: 1. Target carriers for general Club use are accessible and stored on the rack on the outside of the Highpower shed. 2. The Club does not provide paper targets. As in the past, bring your own. 3. Please be considerate of all users of Range 1, and all other ranges. When your use of the range is finished remove your targets, staples (as reasonably able), tape, brass, and all other materials that you brought to the range Access to the Highpower shed is unnecessary for general range use. More importantly, with the Club s significant financial investment in electronic targets for use on Range 1, controlling access to the Highpower shed will be even more important. ELECTRONIC TARGET UPDATE: I m advised that installation and calibrating of electronic targets is proceeding. Access to and use of those targets is expected for the 2018 shooting season. Club members should expect further announcements concerning orientation dates and development of Club policy to allow general Club member use of electronic targets. Thank you for your cooperation, Ricky L. Smith Sr. President Wildcat Valley Rifle and Pistol
