To anticipate, create and lead the best healthcare experience for all.
our caring our giving At Midmark, we value engaged and healthy teammates and families. Every year, our teammates become more engaged by continually seeking out ways to contribute to their communities and the world. 2015 was no exception.
Our teammates live our mission and values each and every day. They do this by serving their communities however they can. To encourage their involvement, Midmark recently launched a volunteer donation program called, Paying It Forward. If a teammate or their spouse volunteers at least 25 service hours to a non-profit organization, the Midmark Foundation will donate $250 to that organization (subject to the board s approval). During the program s first year, we had 17 teammates participate, raising $4,250 in total to causes that our teammates are passionate about. community outreach Midmark began a partnership with the Community Blood Center of Dayton in 2001. Since then, we have expanded to hosting 18 on-campus blood drives per year. In 2015, Midmark had 904 donors register and as a result, possibly saved up to 2,300 lives.
Our March of Dimes committee finished its final year strong having raised more than $14,000 to help aid in lifesaving research and programs to end premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality. This past year, they recruited 100 teammates and family members to participate in their annual March for Babies Walk in celebration of our 100 year anniversary. That s more than double the participation to 2014. Next year, the March of Dimes committee is excited to be directing its efforts toward fundraising for Dayton Children s Hospital. Midmark continues to support Versailles Community Meals at the local Lutheran church. Our teammates served 6 dinners over the course of the year, averaging 180 meals per dinner. This program offers a warm meal to those in the community who are in need. Newly retired teammate, Mary Lou Nerderman, continues to take the lead as our main cook for the Midmark team of volunteers, proving that the Because we care philosophy follows you wherever you go. In 2015, Midmark Teammates collected over $14,000 for the Darke County United Way. They creatively did so by hosting mum and pie sales, 50/50 and vacation day drawings, as well as offering teammates the chance to donate through a payroll deduction program. In November, 24 teammates volunteered with a local radio station to raise money for the Dayton Children s Hospital by donating approximately 25 service hours to their annual radiothon. The radiothon collected $302,657 for the local hospital.
Midmark participates in Relay For Life, an organization that raises money for the American Cancer Society to aid in the research for cures and treatments of cancer. In 2015, Midmark raised over $10,300 for the cause by selling raffle tickets, chicken dinners and a luminaria campaign for the Relay For Life event hosted in a local park. Habitat for Humanity delivers affordable, safe housing to those in need. In early September, teammate volunteers gathered again to support this great cause. First, assisting in a parking lot build in downtown Dayton, where teammates helped to frame walls for local building sites. Then, in November, teammates volunteered at a house-building site on Lucerne Avenue in Dayton.
Gifts from the Heart, established in 1992, is a committee of Midmark Teammates who collects monetary and gift donations during the Christmas season. They use these funds to donate food and gifts to help those facing hard times during the holiday season. Just a small way to make a big impact on those around them. The Feel the H.e.a.t. committee at Midmark focuses on encouraging healthy and engaged teammates and families. In 2015, they held their second annual 5K race. Over 130 runners came out to support a very special cause, the Special Olympics. The race raised $1,835 to help people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success through the power of sports. Besides fundraising and volunteer efforts in our communities, Midmark made equipment donations last year to the Wayne HealthCare Foundation, Wright State Lake Campus, Wayne Street United Methodist Church Care Center in St. Marys, just to name a few.
environmental responsibility In August 2015, our Lincolnshire location kicked-off a new recycling program. Since its start, they have measured over a 20% or 4.66 ton reduction in trash sent to landfills. They did this through recycling office paper, corrugated plastic, metal and e-scrap. They will be launching phase two later in 2016 which will consist of recycling Styrofoam, wood pallets and shrink wrap.
close to our hearts At Midmark, we try to help causes that are closest to our hearts. One way we do this is by stepping up when one of our very own is in need. With the Midmark company match policy, teammates helped to gather over $21,000 in 2015 to help their fellow teammates in need. The support our teammates show for one another is astounding not only professionally, but personally. Every year, West Coast Regional Sales Manager, Mike Kuna, assembles a team for the Group Health Seattle-to-Portland Bicycle Classic to raise money for a cause dear to his heart. His son was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Prader-Willi syndrome. He and his team raise money for the research and development of treatment for those who suffer from the disease. To also raise awareness of the challenges faced by those who have the condition, Kuna and his team of 30 riders use single-gear beach cruisers. 2015 marked the 10th year for Team Midmark, raising $40,000 in support of the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research.
beyond our markets World Vision is a global organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities to help them reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. The first donation Midmark made to World Vision took place in 2004. Since then, we have helped to serve 27 different countries, donating more than 2,600 pallets of exam tables and other healthcare equipment. Last year our contributions helped to furnish a new health clinic in Zambia. Midmark Teammates, their families and special guests helped to assemble 1,000 AIDS Caregiver Kits during our 100 year anniversary celebration that were also sent to Zambia. Domestically, five teammates volunteered a half week of their time to go on a mission trip. In 2015, they went to an impoverished home near the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia. With the help of World Vision, the teammates were able to assist the family by painting their home, building a wheelchair ramp, fixing a fence in the backyard and the plumbing.
Direct Relief works to improve the health of people living in high-need areas by strengthening fragile health systems and increasing access to quality healthcare in 70 countries around the world. Midmark has been partnering with Direct Relief since 1992. During promotions, Midmark offers cash rebates to customers who redeem and donate their used sterilizer to Direct Relief. Aside from facilitating donations, Midmark donates sterilizers and other equipment directly to Direct Relief to help provide disaster relief worldwide. In 2015, Midmark established a new partnership with IMEC, an organization whose mission is to transform impoverished communities. They carry out this mission by providing the equipment, tools and supplies needed to advance medical, agricultural and educational services in communities of the developing world. For our first collaboration, Midmark donated three sterilizers to a lab clinic they are building in Liberia.
beyond our markets Midmark partners with Clinic In A Can, an innovative, non-profit organization that constructs sustainable, clean and secure mobile healthcare clinics for underserved nations and disaster areas by repurposing used shipping containers. All proceeds made from our business with Clinic In A Can go to the Midmark Foundation, who donates scholarships and funds to the teammate volunteer donation program.
