Town of Norwell Fire Department REGISTRATION GUIDELINES FOR THIS EXAMINATION 1. The examination date is Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 6:00 PM 2. To register, log onto www.publicsafetyllc.com Click on the Examinations button at the top and then choose the examination you are registering for. 3. Use this website to register for the examination using a credit card. Examination Only ($80.00 dollars) 4. The registration deadline for this examination is Monday, August 14, 2017 at 9:00 AM 5. Payment must be received in full at the time of registration (Credit card payment only) 6. Cancellation by 12:00 noon on Monday, August 14, 2017 will receive 50% refund. 7. No refund for cancellation after 12:00 noon on Monday, August 14, 2017. 8. By registering for this examination, you agree to all terms and conditions of the registration and examination process. 9. EXAMINATION CHECK-IN PROCEDURE: 1. Candidates should arrive by 5:30 PM. The examination will begin exactly at 6:00 PM and last approximately two hours and thirty minutes. 2. Examination monitors will verify the following: a. Applicants name, address, and email b. Your email address for test score notification c. Valid government picture identification must be shown at check in d. You will then be assigned to a testing room 3. No food or drinks are allowed in the examination room. 4. Absolutely NO electronic device is allowed in the examination room. You must leave all electronics at home or in your automobile. No cell phone allowed. 5. You should bring #2 pencils for the examination. Please do not use any pen or a mechanical pencil. ADMISSION TO EXAMINATION The day before the examination, you will be emailed an "Admission Notice" for this examination. TEST FORMAT Though most of the questions in this test battery relate to fire duty, no prior knowledge of the fire service is needed to answer the questions. The Examination proctor will read specific instructions prior to the beginning of each examination section. Test Scores Test results will be sent to each candidate and the Town of Norwell within 14 days of the examination via email. Applicants must obtain an overall minimum passing score of 70 per cent.. MINIMUM FIRE FIGHTER QUALIFICATIONS Possess National Certification as a registered Emergency Medical Technician with a Paramedic designation at the time of sitting for the Firefighter examination; employees must maintain Paramedic designation as a condition of employment. Possess CPR and ACLS certifications. High School or equivalent education level required; Associate or Bachelor's degree highly desirable. Minimum age eighteen (18) on the date of application. Possess active Class D Massachusetts driver's license or higher; must provide proof of safe driving record. Non-user of tobacco products; on and off duty as required by state law. Experience working within an organized fire department and/or for an ambulance service desirable but not a requirement. Must reside within a thirty-five (35) mile radius of the fire station within six (6) months of hire date and remain within this distance during employment. Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills, present a positive public image, have both a mechanical and computer aptitude, relate and work well with others, able to demonstrate public confidence and respect, work independently, be self-motivated, trustworthy and highly ethical. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory results of a number of pre-employment requirements to include: o background investigation, including CORI and motor vehicle, o physical Exam, o hearing and vision tests, o drug screening, o MA Physical Abilities Test, and o Psychological screening assessments. There is a twelve (12) month probationary period. Must enroll, complete and pass the recruit training course sponsored by the Massachusetts Fire Academy within twelve (12) months of hire date.
