Nvel methds and appraches fr sensing, evaluating, mdulating and regulating md and emtinal states. 2018 Jy Academic Grant Call fr Prpsals Intrductin The Annual Jy grant initiative aims t prmte and cntribute t the emerging field f neurwellness. The grant supprts research effrts that ptentially impact human perfrmance and wellbeing, imprve regulatin f emtins in persnal and scial cntext and increase mental and physical resilience under challenge which are all different aspects f neur-wellness. Neur-wellness fcuses n the research f imprving r enhancing the resilience f the healthy brain twards stress, emtinal imbalance and instability, and understanding their underlying mechanisms. Each year, a new grant theme will supprt research effrts that elucidate mechanisms that cmprise and cntribute t human wellness; generate new neur-wellness-related knwledge thrugh new implementatins f existing data; r use state f the art scientific tls, technlgies and new mdalities t generate new appraches fr sensing, mnitring and mdulating f the human brain and bdy. 2018 Jy Grant Theme This year s grant theme will cver varius research aspects relating t characterizatin and identificatin f emtinal states and md alteratins in humans. Research prpsals that will be cnsidered fr the 2018 grant will include research, in varius stages, that will eventually prvide nvel slutins fr at least ne f the fllwing bjectives: Regulatin f emtinal states: Identify and characterize emtinal states; understand the mechanisms underlying emtin regulatin; research f psitive affect and prcesses that supprt and enhance frmatin f psitive habits. Nn-invasive methds t manage and imprve emtinal states and md- may include, but nt limited t sensry/bdily influences n such regulatin; neurmdulatin techniques, enhancement f brain plasticity. Nn-invasive, real-time sensing techniques, cntinuus mnitring and nn-invasive evaluatin f emtinal states May include, but nt limited t: Study f parameters frm varius anatmic structures (such as skin, face, muscles r eyes); 1
Cntinuus sensing f hrmnes and neurtransmitters; measurements f surrgate markers f emtinal states in humans Behaviral and scial data as surrgate markers fr emtinal state Multiparametric big data appraches fr understanding, mnitring and predicting vulnerability t dysregulated emtinal states r unstable md may include, but nt limited t setting new physilgical parameters, applying machine learning and artificial intelligence: making new sense ut f existing data sets (such as heart rate, GSR, EOG, EMG, ximetry, EEG) Eligibility The grant will supprt research perfrmed in academic educatin centers (universities and clleges) and medical research institutes in Israel. Cllabratins between varius academic disciplines, different Israeli research institutes, and/r with industry are highly encuraged. Internatinal cllabratins will be cnsidered. Applied apprach is encuraged. We welcme basic research prpsals as lng as the future applicatin f the research is clearly stated. We supprt studies n human subjects that ultimately target healthy ppulatins. Wh can apply fr the Jy academic grant? Lab heads and principal investigatrs Pst-dctral fellws PhD candidates (with supervisr apprval) Jint interdisciplinary teams frm any discipline are invited (neurscience, psychlgy, life sciences, medicine, engineering, cmputer science, physics, humanities and thers). Inter-disciplinary teams f researchers frm exact/life science, tgether with researchers frm scial sciences and humanities are encuraged. Abut Jy & The Jy Annual Grant Prgram Jy aims t facilitate the creatin f a jint, inter-disciplinary, cllabrative ecsystem between academia and industry. The gal is t implement the latest advancements in neurscience, related fields and technlgy fr imprving the everyday human experience and well-being by cultivating mental resilience and reducing mental vulnerability and allwing peple t cpe beneficially with 2
difficulties and challenges f daily life. This will allw peple t cpe with and better manage stress and negative emtins during their daily life. Jy s lng-term gal is t create slutins catering individuals directly, with n need fr FDA clearance r medical guidance/supervisin Mre infrmatin abut Jy Ventures The grant initiative is an annual effrt t supprt research in the neur-wellness field. This is the secnd year f the prgram. The prgram will prvide, each year, up t $1.2 millin dllars (in aggregate) funding, t prpsals cnsistent with the initiative's gals, thrugh a cmpetitive applicatin, review, and selectin prcess. Selected prpsals will be funded with amunts f $40,000-$100,000 per annum, fr a tw-year perid, beginning December 15, 2018. Research extensins shuld be applied fr up t 6 mnths prir t the end f the tw-year perid. The grant des nt supprt clinical studies and studies that fcus n mental r physical diseases. T get a better idea f supprted research see previus grant winners. A meeting explaining the grant applicatin and presenting the initiative including Q&A will be held, n January 22, t further elabrate n the annual grant theme and answer questins.
