Pericardium Channel and Points

Primary channel pathway Center of the chest (hypochondriac area) Emerge in the P1 PC SJ arches over the axilla The midline of the upper arm and fore arm (between the tendons of the palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis muscles) follows the radial aspect of the ring finger to its tip (exit point P8) Along the middle finger

Pericardium Luo-connecting channel P 6 Travels along with the Pericardium primary channel to the Pericardium and then connects with the Heart system The SJ channel Excess conditions: sudden of HT pain Deficiency conditions: irritability

Pericardium divergent channel Diverge Hypochondriac area (GB 22 or PC1) Enter Exit The chest and connect with the SJ and then connects with the throat Back of the ear Converge The SJ channel (SJ 16)

Pericardium muscular region Start Middle finger Bundle Big joints (wrist, elbow, shoulder ) Distributed Along the PC channel Unite Hypochondria area GB 22 (3 arm yin channels) GB 13 (3 arm yang channels) RN 3 (3 leg yin channels) ST3, SI 18 (3 leg yang channels)

Indications of PC channel 1). HT organ problems Such as: palpitation, irregular heart beat, cheat pain, chest tightness 2). Mental problems Such as: insomnia, dream-disturbs sleep, anxiety, worry, depression 3). SJ problems: more focus on upper jiao (HT/LU), middle jiao (ST/LV) 4). Local problems

On the transverse cubital crease, on the ulnar side of the tendon of the biceps brachii. Transverseoblique insertion posteriorly along the inter-costal space, 0.5 to 1 cun. Caution: deep needling pneumothorax. Oblique insertion distally or proximally along the line of the channel, 1 to 1.5 cun. Perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 1 cun, or prick to bleed. Caution: the brachial artery and veins lie deeply, just medial to this point.

P 1 (entry point) Window of sky point P 2 P 3 He-sea point (water) 1. Upper jiao problems: (HT/LU) Chest tightness, chronic cough 1. Window of sky point: various manifestations of inversion qi (chaotic and rebellious qi), in this case affecting the Lung (uprising qi, cough etc.), head (headache), sense organs (blurred vision) and neck region (scrofula). Mostly for excess patterns. 2. local problems: breast tenderness, mastitis, lack of lactation 1. local problems: arm pain 2. irregular heart beat 1. He-sea point: 1) Counterflow qi and diarrhea, disease of the Stomach disorders resulting from irregular eating and drinking: diarrhea, dysentery-like disorders, and vomiting, especially when due to summer-heat. (P 3, BL 40) 2) Diseases of the skin: wind rash. 3) HT problems: palpitation, irregular HT beat, chest tightness, Shen disorder 2. Clear heat from Ying (nutritive) and Xue (bood) level: agitation and restlessness, dry mouth and hemorrhage from the LU and ST. 3. local problems: arm pain, elbow pain

P4 P5 P6 P7 between the tendons of palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis 5 cun proximal to P7 3 cun proximal to P7 Perpendicular 0.5 to 1 cun or oblique 1 to 1.5 cun. 2 cun proximal to P7 On the transverse crease on the wrist i. Perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 1 cun, or joined to SJ 5; ii. Oblique proximal insertion 1 to 1.5 cun for diseases of the chest; iii. Oblique distal insertion 1 to 1.5 cun for numbness of the fingers. i. Perpendicular insertion 0.3 to 0.5 cun; ii. Oblique distal insertion along the carpal tunnel for carpal tunnel syndrome, 0.5 to 1 cun. Caution: the median nerve lies directly under this point and needling commonly induces a significant electric sensation. This is an acceptable manifestation of deqi (arrival of qi), but once elicited, further manipulation is inappropriate and may damage the nerve.
