News from Alan Campbell MP December 2016 A message from Alan Here s my recent Community News keeping you up to date on some of my work in the constituency and in Westminster. From the Victorian Christmas Market to the North Tyneside Learning Disability Federation s Carol Service at Christ Church, this time of year shows the best of our community. Looking back over past editions of this newsletter the theme that links each one is the strength of our local community and the Community News Here s a copy of my Christmas Card. This year I ve sent an electronic card and will be donating money to charity instead. dedication of all the local people who work so hard to make our area such a fantastic place to live. We ve got some big challenges ahead in 2017 both locally and nationally and we must rise to those challenges. So to you and yours I wish you a happy, healthy and safe New Year. Best wishes Have your say on local plans for the NHS Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and North Durham draft sustainability and transformation plan (STP) for developing local health and social care services over the next five years has been published, for public discussion and feedback. Health and social care organisations across Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and North Durham have developed the plan in an effort to improve the health and wellbeing of 1.7m people. The draft is one of 44 such plans being developed across the country. Each area is responsible for engaging local people and stakeholders on their draft proposals. The success of the STPs will depend on having an open and engaging process that involves patients, carers, residents, local government and care providers. You are invited to provide feedback on the plans until 20 January 2017, and I would strongly encourage you to play your part in helping to shape health services across North Tyneside and beyond. You can download copies of the draft plan and also give your views on the proposals via: Web: http://www.northtynesideccg.nhs.uk/get-involved/your-views/stp/ Email: NGCCG.STP-NTWNDfeedback@nhs.net

A new vicar for Whitley Lodge Baptist Church Tesco s Neighbourhood Food Collection I was pleased to attend and speak at the induction of the Reverend Paul Richards at Whitley Bay Baptist Church. Rev Richards pictured here with Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn. Thanks to Tesco who once again have supported the Trussell Trust and Fareshare at their Neighbourhood Food collection at the store on Norham Road in North Shields. Christmas at the new Cedarwood Centre North Tyneside Disability Forum s Christmas Party! I went along to the switch on of the Christmas Lights at the Cedarwood Centre in their new home on the Meadow Well. The new centre also hosts a mural of local characters, the Rev David Peel and Chirton Cllr Margaret Reynolds! It was a pleasure to go along to the North Tyneside Disability Forum s Christmas Party. Thanks to Sue Adams and all the staff and volunteers who work so hard all year round.

Carol s at Christ Church Opening of Silverlink Point It was a pleasure to attend the LD: North East annual carol service at Christ Church in North Shields. Well done to all the students at Beacon Hill and Woodlawn School who took part in what was a fantastic service. I joined Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn and Mary Glindon MP at the opening of Silverlink Point which is a new 30 million extension to the Silverlink Retail park and which has created many new jobs in the area. Care for our NHS Shiremoor Treat Fayre I m supporting a campaign to Care for the NHS. Especially at this time of year it is important to say thank you to all the staff who work so tirelessly on our behalf 365 days of the year. I recently popped in to the Shiremoor Treat Christmas Fayre. The Shiremoor Treat is a part of our heritage and an important local tradition. Thanks to Michael Green and all the volunteers who work to keep the tradition alive.

Victorian Christmas Party RNIB Guide Dogs Reception Here s me at the North Shields Victorian Christmas Market with the Town Cryer. Another successful year and a very enjoyable event! St Columba s Knitted Bible I went along to a reception in Parliament organised by the RNIB to find out more about accessing public transport. Small Business Saturday Congratulations to St Columba s for exhibiting the Knitted Bible over the Victorian Market Weekend. I joined the long queue to see the exhibition featuring 33 bible scenes all made from knitted wool! I was pleased to join forces with Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn to support Small Business Saturday shopping locally and supporting local independent businesses.

Pudding Fun Run Don t forget the Woodlawn Boxing Day Pudding Fun Run. I ll be starting it once again on what will be the 31st run! Assurances sought on local NHS CONTACT ALAN 99 Howard Street, North Shields NE30 1NA www.alancampbellmp.co.uk campbellal@parliament.uk 0191 2571927 I recently met with the Chief Executive of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to discuss the recent decision to change the opening hours of the urgent care centre at North Tyneside hospital. The urgent care centre is now closed overnight between the hours of midnight and 8am because of the small numbers of people attending overnight and so that nursing staff can be redeployed to the new Critical Care Hospital at Cramlington. I ve sought and received assurances that this is a temporary measure. The staff rotas have been adjusted for the next few months and the trust plans to review this in March when the height of winter pressures is hopefully over. I also stressed that the outcome of the public consultation on the future of urgent care services in North Tyneside was very clear. People want this 24 hour service to be based at Rake Lane and I share that view. It will make the system much simpler for the public to understand in future and help secure the service at Rake Lane. It is clearly going to be a very busy time for all of our NHS services and I wish all NHS staff the very best during the winter months ahead.
