Luisa, a 211 employee, asked me to help her find information on alleviating her daughter s speech development delays. I told her about the healthy development and school readiness programs offered by First 5. Her daughter, Jasmine, worked with specialists in finding the best avenue and teaching method to help her develop her speech to the level it needs to be for her age. Luisa later thanked me for telling her about the First 5 programs. She said, I couldn t ask for a better gift than to hear Jasmine talk with me and her schoolmates. During Firestorm 2007, Ming received a reverse 911 call to evacuate her trailer park in East County. By the time Ming and her neighbors were able to evacuate, the park was surrounded by flames and the exit route was cut off. I answered her call and quickly connected her to the Sheriff s department that sent an escort to safely evacuate the residence. Thankfully, Ming knew to call 211 and I was able to save her and the other neighbors from certain danger. A young mother named Camille called 211 extremely upset explaining that her house would be foreclosed on within weeks. I was able to calm Camille and patiently walk her through an assessment to identify resources that would help her. I referred her to multiple housing assistance programs as well as information on food and utilities. I felt it was important to help her understand her options not just for housing, but other services that could help lessen the financial impact on her wallet. I was happy to give Camille a sense of relief and showed her that there is hope out there. Hi, my name is Perla and I m here to help Information & Referral Specialist, 4 years 57,672 people helped
