Rotoplast Saving Smiles and Changing Lives Room: Main 2801 Rotarian Ken Funk Recommended for: Any Rotarian wanting to learn more about International Service Rotoplast International was founded in 1992 by two Rotary Clubs to facilitate a surgical program in La Serena, Chile to treat children with the cleft lip and palate anomaly who would otherwise not receive surgical intervention. In 2012, they operated on their 15,000 th child. A2. Rotary Foundation 101 or The Basics Room: Main 2810 Permanent Fund Chair Wayne Leach Recommended for: Newer Rotarians who want to learn the basics of OUR Foundation This session will give an overview of Rotary Foundation programs and the importance of Annual Giving. Learn how clubs can get involved and change lives. Learn how clubs and individuals can become involved and support the Foundation. A3. ClubRunner An Underutilized Club Asset Room: Main 2830 DG Sean Hogan, Mike Leighan Recommended for: Club Secretaries, PR Chairs, Website Managers If you want to understand ClubRunner and how to better utilize it for yourself and/or your club, this session will help you out. A5. New Generations: The 5 th Pillar in Rotary Service Room: Main 3801 Patty Klassen, Beverly Harrington ( Y.E.S ) Recommended for: Anyone interested in our youth programs We are mentoring the next generation. Learn about our District youth programs - RYLA, YAIL, Rotaract, Interact, and Y.E.S. The future of Rotary is in these young people, the time is now to get involved. A6. How do you find and implement a meaningful, effective service project? This session will get you started and you can hear what other clubs in the District 5050 are doing. A8. Vocational Service Often Forgotten Avenue of Service Room: Main 3830 PDG Gary Holick Recommended for: Club Vocational Directors / Chairs and any interested members We often forget this Avenue of Service. It encourages Rotary Ethics, the 4 Way Test and is one of the biggest parts of our service to youth. This session will cover successful projects and activities in clubs, how to communicate Rotary ethics to your community and how your Vocational Committee relates to the New Generations Avenue of Service. A9. Vibrant Clubs Great Meetings and Fellowship Events are the Key Room: Main 3840 PDG Rod Thomson Recommended for: Club Program Chair, Fellowship Chair or any interested member The weekly meeting is the most important activity for your club. Discuss ways you can improve your club meeting to retain current members and attract new members - good speakers, meeting times and locations, program variety, club business meetings, engaging membership and having fun every week. Also, the very important fellowship activities outside the weekly meetings that enable and deepen great friendships. A10. Water, Sanitation & Hygiene aka WaSH Room: Main 2820 Rotarian Stew Martin Recommended for: Anyone interested in Water and Sanitation and Hygiene as a Focus Learn how WaSH is being handled in Rotary, including WASRAG Water and Sanitation Rotary Action Group and the popularity of WaSH as an Area of Focus for Rotary and why Rotarians Start with Water. Presidents-Elect: District Budget, Crisis Management & Q&A Room: Conference Centre DGE Denis Boyd Required attendance for all current Presidents Elect This session will be a follow up to your PETS training. We will update the Presidents-Elect on any new information available since PETS, discuss the Presidential Citation, take steps to approving our District Budget, review Good to Great and discuss Servant Leaders. B2. Rotary Foundation Our Future Vision Room: Main 2810 Gord Edberg and Gayle Carter Recommended for: Any Rotarian who wants to learn a little more about Future Vision Have you dreamed of changing the world? TRF lets us do that. Learn more about one of the best rated charities in the world --- and it is OURS! Learn how regular Rotarians can spend and put to great use their donations. Club Treasurer - Best Practices & Updates Room: Main 2801 District Treasurer John Peters & AG Val Tibbetts Recommended for: Club Treasurers Updates, changes and requirements you need to stay safe, legal and in the know. Handling and collecting money, conducting clear timely accounting and reporting, implementing fiscal club policies and standards. Accuracy and transparency - easy concepts but not so simple to implement. Auditing needs, legal requirements, bonding and insurance issues and needs. Best practices in handling RI and District funds. B5. Rotary PR & PI - A Secret, Well Kept! Room: Main 2820 PDG Rod Thomson, PR Chair Bob Knight, Director of Communications Terry Becker Recommended for: Club PR Chairs and anyone interested in getting publicity for your club Change Rotary and your club from a well kept secret to a well known and trusted community and international service organization. Learn the tools and skills that can get the message out. How do we use them effectively, sustainably to get the results we deserve! B6. Membership Great Orientation & Engagement Ideas Room: Main 2830 Membership Chair, AG Linda Murray Recommended For: Club Membership Chairs and clubs wanting to retain membership How to make your new members feel at home as soon as possible and make sure they get to know the basics without being overwhelmed! SGT- at- Arms Maintaining Order in a Disorderly Club Room: Main 3830 PDG Rob Martin Recommended for Sergeants-at-Arms The Sergeant at Arms plays a vital role in allowing the club President to concentrate on conducting the weekly meetings. To fine or not, name badges, late arrivals, early leavers, these are things that are your responsibility. Sing a Song or Fine? Seating, do you mix them up or does that group stay together forever! It is not as easy as it may look but you play a valuable role in the weekly meeting. BREAKOUT SESSION THREE C - 11:30-12:20 PM C1. Best Practices for Directors Room: Main 2801 DG Sean Hogan & PDG Larry Stinson Recommended for: Incoming Presidents, Presidents-Elect, Club Executives & Directors A Board of Directors both leads and runs the club, setting the tone for its success and morale. Session reviews: Best practices for Board meetings, Role of Club Constitution & By-Laws, Responsibilities of Directors (including legal), Leadership Development. C2. Fundraising - Why s and How s & Ideas Exchange Room: Main 2810 Moderators AG Doug Wickers & Carol Tichelman Recommended for: Representatives from all clubs Why re-invent the wheel? Many Clubs have experienced extraordinary results from interesting, fun and innovative fundraising ideas. Learn their secrets, how they got started, the process and why their efforts have been successful. You will receive ideas, gain inspiration and take home resources to help your club generate a little extra cash. Hear from other clubs about what they do and how they do it. Make Fundraising a fellowship event and not a work shift. C3. C5. Good Grief: Coping with the loss of a Rotarian Room: Main 3801 DGE Denis Boyd Recommended for : All Rotarians When a Rotary friend leaves our club or dies, we all grieve their departure. This can be a challenge as our society tends not to focus on loss or to manage it well. This session will look at healthy grief and what can be done to move through it. Suggestions for individuals or clubs to help with the departure, illness or death of a member will be offered with time for discussion. C6. Vocational Service Networking Plus Room: Cedar 1015 Ajay Caleb Recommended for: Younger Rotarians (!) Join in a consultation for a New Rotary Idea of Networking plus and how that would work in a Rotary Club. C7 The Culture of Crawlers- Post Polio Syndrome Room: Main 3820 Linda Whitehead - Canadian Wheelchair Foundation Recommended for: Any Rotarian The Canadian Wheelchair Foundation is an independent Canadian registered charity dedicated to: Raising awareness of the needs and abilities of people with physical disabilities Delivering mobility into the lives of children, teens and adults in the world who have no means to acquire a wheelchair Transforming lives through mobility, and with it giving to all those deprived of it by war, disease, accident, natural disaster and advanced age, independence, dignity, hope and opportunity C8. Communications Recording Club Goals with Rotary Club Central Room: Main 3830 District PAJ Editor & AG David Truman Recommended for: Club Newsletter Editors, Webmasters & Secretaries An interactive session to explain Rotary Club Central and how clubs need to use this tool to record their clubs annual goals. Your newsletter/bulletin is the heart of your club. It provides useful information and essential knowledge to club members. It can sometimes be a challenge to keep members interest. This session can provide an exchange of ideas that will help you revitalize your club bulletins and enhance your communication tools. C9. Pure Water for the World Room: Main 3810 Presenter Carolyn Meub Recommended for: All Rotarians who are interested in or are working on projects who want to know about an easy and inexpensive health intervention Hand washing is not just for Water and Sanitation Projects C10.
