SECTION 4 FIRST AID MEASURES Swallowed Eye Skin Inhaled First-Aid Facilities Advice to Doctor Rinse mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Rinse the eye with water. Repeat until effects stop. Seek medical attention if effects persist. Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Remove to fresh air. Eyewash plus normal washroom facilities nearby. Treat symptomatically. Refer to Product Information. SECTION 9 PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Appearance and Odour Iodosorb Medicated Dressings: Brown coloured, 5g (4cm x 6cm), 10g (6cm x 8cm), or 17g (8cm x 10cm), paste dressing, with gauze backing. Sealed in a heatsealed sachet. Iodosorb Ointment: Brown coloured paste in a small aluminium tube, with 10g, 20g, or 40g contents. Iodosorb Powder: Brown coloured powder in a 3g heat-sealed sachet. SECTION 10 STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Stability Conditions to Avoid Incompatible Materials Hazardous Decomposition Products Hazardous Polymerisation Stable. Naked flames and ignition sources. Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents. Contains iodine which can leave the product especially when heated over 45 C. Reacts violently with acetaldehyde, sulphur and metal powders when heated. Iodine reacts explosively with ammonia and acetylene. None identified. Will not occur. SECTION 11 - TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION Acute Effects Swallowed Eye Skin Inhaled Chronic Effects Powder: The quantity of powder swallowed would be limited to 3g. The iodine released may cause irritation of the mucous membranes. Ointment: May cause abdominal discomfort, headache, nausea and vomiting. Powder: The powder could contact the eye. May cause irritation due to the iodine released. However, the iodine concentration from dust in the eye will be very low. Ointment: May cause irritation. Dressing, Ointment, Powder: May cause an allergic reaction in individuals allergic to iodine. Powder: The powder could be inhaled. The large particle size would limit its penetration into the lungs to the upper regions only. The 3g quantity may cause irritation due to the iodine content. Possible reaction to the iodine contained in this product by persons with known or suspected iodine sensitivity. Chronic absorption of iodine may result in Iodism with symptoms of hyper-salivation, sneezing, conjunctivitis, laryngitis, headache, skin rash and gastric upset.
