Which training is appropriate for you? Camden Safeguarding Children Board maintains training levels in line with guidance in Working Together to Safeguard Children and the Intercollegiate Document and has organised its training into different levels of knowledge and skills. The level required depends on the degree of contact you have with children and families and your professional role. All practitioners and managers must be able to work effectively with others, within their agencies and across professional boundaries. Our training is designed to offer a multi-agency experience so that professionals can learn and network with workers and volunteers from other agencies. Most courses are open to all professionals who work in Camden settings and agencies. Please note from the charts below that you need to identify your group and then you can choose, in consultation with your manager, which courses are best suited to your role. Remember that you need to attend refresher courses in order to update your basic awareness of safeguarding and child protection. This may involve attending courses from levels 1 or 2 even if your role puts you at a different level. We are unable to offer advice about which course might be suitable because we do not know enough about your previous experience, training history or current professional role. It may be that your own agency has its individual way of identifying training levels. In order to make the best choices from our programme you need to look at the training pathway and occupational group charts below which are designed to work for all agencies involved in safeguarding and child protection How to use the charts: 1. First look at the occupational group chart and find either your role or the nearest equivalent. 2. Look at the training pathway chart to see which course levels you should be looking for. Don t forget that even if you are in Group 3 upwards you still need to include Level 1 and 2 training in order to meet your specific training needs or for updating or refreshing.

Group 2 Group 2 are generally staff and volunteers who work regularly with children and young people and with adults who are parents/carers. They have considerable professional and organisational responsibility for safeguarding and promoting children and young people s welfare. Group 3 Group 3 are generally staff working predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers. They have particular responsibilities for safeguarding and child protection. Group 3 have a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy to act on children and young people s welfare concerns. Group 4* Group 5* Group 6* Group 4 are professional advisors, named, nominated and designated officers for child protection and their deputies in all services and agencies. Group 5 are operational managers of Groups 1-4 Examples of who should be included Operational managers at all levels including: practice supervisors; front line and operational managers Group 6 are members of the Safeguarding Board including: Independent chairs Board members Members of sub-groups Group 6 also includes senior managers responsible for the strategic management of services. *Please remember that professionals in these groups need to attend courses at other levels in order to meet their knowledge refreshment and updating needs

Frequently Asked Questions Where can I find information about the multi-agency courses? Who can attend? Information about our training is on our website www.cscb.org.uk and information is sent out by email to agencies for distribution in-house. Courses are open to anybody who works in Camden settings and agencies. How can I attend a course? You first need to open a training account via our website (www.cscb.org.uk) and register on our database. This is a one-off process. Once you have done this you can easily apply for a place on a course without having to give all your details again. You cannot apply for a place on a course unless you have first registered with us. Must my manager support my application? We ask you for the name and contact details of your manager and will tell them when you have been offered a place on a course. We expect that you will discuss your application and how it meets your training needs before applying, and expect that they will facilitate your attendance How much does the training cost? Our training is free to professionals working in agencies based in Camden who work with Camden children and/or families and is funded by the Camden Children Safeguarding Board.
Cancelling a place? We understand that sometimes individuals may need to cancel a booking for a training place. You can do this via the CSCB web site by logging into your account or by emailing us. We will acknowledge all cancellations by email, if you do not receive a confirmation that your place has been cancelled please contact us. Are there Cancellation/Non-attendance charges? Costs for this training include venue hire, trainer fees, refreshments and course materials. The cost of your place must be met even if you do not come. We take attendance very seriously and you have made a commitment to attend by applying for a place. If we do not hear from either the delegate or their line manager, that they will not be attending, at least 7 days before the date of the course, we will charge their agency a 125 non-attendance fee. Please note, from January 2018 this charging policy will be implemented by the Board without exception. How will I know if I have a place on a course? You will receive a response to your application followed by a confirmation application. This confirms your place on the course and we will expect you to attend. We will send joining details about a week before the course date with all the joining information you need Why am I refused a place when there are still spaces available? This will be because we have to share places out between all the agencies that work with children and families in Camden and are unlikely to be able to offer more than four places to one specific agency. If the fair share of places for
your agency has been filled we may not be able to offer you a place, even if there are still places for other agencies. Multi-agency events need to have a minimum of three agencies attending and an average of sixteen participants. One agency is therefore likely to be allocated up to four places. An over-representation of participants from one agency or profession is unfair to others and compromises the multi-agency balance of a course. Where are courses held? All our training venues are in or very close to Camden and we take public transport into account when booking venues. You will receive full information about the location in the joining details. We will include postcodes so you can plan your journey using an online map or Transport for London journey planner. Our venues often have their own websites giving location details. Please do not assume the venue will always be the same What else do I need to do? Please tell us as soon as possible if you are withdrawing from a course so that the place can be offered to somebody else. Make sure that you arrive at the venue on time for the start. It is our policy to close courses to latecomers half an hour after the start. We will support any trainer who refuses admission to a latecomer If I can t come can I give my place to someone else from my agency? It may be possible to arrange this, but please ask us before doing this in case we need to offer the place to somebody else
Can I go on a waiting list if I am unsuccessful in getting a place on a course? We do not keep waiting lists as too many people either leave the borough or are no longer interested in the training before the course comes up again. You need to make a new application if and when the course you are looking for is re-advertised unless we have told you otherwise. Do participants get certificates on multi-agency courses? Yes. Participants get certificates of attendance if they attend the whole course. Arriving late or leaving early probably means you don t get a certificate. These need to be kept safely as evidence of your continuing professional development. We are not able to issue duplicates Are refreshments provided? We provide coffee and tea on arrival and halfway through a half day event. We regret that we are no longer able to provide lunch on our courses so you may wish to bring something with you. Our venues are chosen to try to make sure that lunch can be purchased nearby and trainers are asked to allow an hour for the lunch break to facilitate this How is it best to contact us?
