Dental Implants Do you have one or several missing teeth? Dental Implants might be a solution for you! Implants afford a safe and cost effective option for replacing missing teeth. A Dental Implant replaces the tooth root and builds a stable foundation for a crown, bridge or replacement solutions for a toothless jaw. Once inserted into position, it looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth. This small post measuring only a few millimeters becomes firmly anchored and integrated into the jawbone. Most patients with missing teeth are good candidates for dental implants. A consultation with one of our surgeons will help determine your needs while giving you the proper information to make an informed decision. Did you know? Dental Implants were actually discovered by chance. Professor Branemark was not a dentist but a Swedish scientist. He was actually doing research on how blood vessels behaved inside the bone. They accidentally discovered that titanium could fuse into the bone safely. He called that process "Osseointegration," and concluded that titanium could be used to create an anchor for artificial teeth.
Single Tooth Replacement Once the implant is surgically placed, the bone bonds with the titanium (a process called integration ), creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for the artificial replacement teeth. When this process is complete, an abutment is attached to the implant that will connect the final crown to complete the procedure. An implant crown is not susceptible to cavities but may develop complications if oral hygiene is not maintained consistently over time. ***Be advised, the costs of the crown will be separate from the actual implant placed by the surgeon. Your dentist will usually be the one doing this step. Multiple Tooth Replacement The replacement of multiple missing teeth could be completed with either a removable conventional fixed partial denture or the placement of dental implants and a fixed bridge. Implants inserted in the jaw bone allow fixation of a bridge which looks and feel like natural teeth without the inconveniences of a removable prosthesis. Did you know? Dental implants are a long-standing solution. Once integrated in the jaw bone, dental implants become lifetime solution for replacing natural teeth.
What are the benefits of Dental Implants? A natural looking smile. Renewed confidence and ability to live normally. Normal eating and speaking. Stable and comfortable fit. A long lasting permanent solution. Neighboring teeth stay intact and are not drilled down. ***Have you ever been told that you can t have implants as you don t have enough bone? We might have the solution for you. Learn about the All-on-4 procedure.
Immediate Teeth/Teeth in a day Traditionally, Dental Implants were placed in two steps. The surgeon installed the implants, which were left for three to six months to heal and integrate with the jawbone. Permanent teeth were only fitted once the implants were integrated in the bone. During this healing period, temporary dentures were given. This has been known to be a cause for potential bone loss around the implants. Newer techniques such as the All-on-4, allow new alternatives towards a better outcome. In today s world, modern implant design and state of the art surgical techniques used at East Coast Oral Surgery allow patients to have fixed and reliable teeth the same day. Even in extreme cases of advanced resorption of the jawbone can be treated with permanently anchored teeth using the All-on-4 concept. Benefits of the all-on-4 treatment concept No more bone grafting procedures Faster recovery time Fixed teeth the same day No more denture sore spots Improved appearance and confidence Did you know? There is scientific evidence that patients missing several or all of their teeth diminish their input of fresh vegetables and fruits as well as fibers and vitamins. These deficiencies have an impact on the general health of these patients in regards to hypertension, diabetes and other major illnesses.
All-on-4 treatment concept (Graftless solution) Teeth in a day procedure! What is the All-on-4 treatment concept? The All-on-4 treatment concept refers to the replacement of all teeth on as few as FOUR dental implants, which will support them. This revolutionary technique allows surgeons to gain optimal results as they provide the required support for total rehabilitation of the mouth. By tilting the back implants at a 45-degree angle, it helps overcome bone deficiencies often found in the back jaws, eliminating the need for bone grafting. When Dr. Daniel performs the All-on-4 treatment concept, he uses the Nobel Clinician program as a tool for guidance. This program allows him to perform a blueprint of the surgery prior to the actual surgery-taking place. The program also helps Dr. Daniel find optimal placement for the implants, maximizing function and integration for patients. It also acts as an information tool to show patients how the process will take place. Dr. Daniel (Oral Surgeon) and Dr. Samer Abi Nader (Prosthodontist) have successfully performed the All-on-4 treatment concept procedure on over 450 patients in the last 10 years. The results have been overwhelmingly well received and they are one of the few to offer this service in Atlantic Canada. Did you know? Both Dr. Daniel and Dr. Nader teach the All-on-4 technique at the East Coast Oral Surgery Education Center to general dentists and specialists.
Bone Grafting In some cases, it may be necessary to improve the volume of bone using a procedure called bone grafting. The material used for these types of procedures is either synthetic or the patients bone which is harvested within the oral cavity during the implant procedure or as a separate procedure performed prior to implant placement. Benefits of bone grafting By regenerating bone tissue, it allows patients to receive dental implants. For patients that are suffering from periodontal disease, bone grafting will repair the supporting bone around the teeth. Bone grafting allows to reestablish the normal contour of the jaw bone and improve facial support.
Zygomatic Implants Graftless Implant Solution For severely resorbed or bone deficient upper jaw Bone atrophy is a natural phenomenon that occurs after the extraction of teeth, and which is exacerbated over time due to wearing a denture. Patients with advanced atrophy of the jaw may not have the minimum bone volume required to have dental implants. These patients have traditionally been deemed unfit for conventional dental implants. Zygomatic implants have become proven alternative for the treatment of patients with severe bone loss. Zygomatic implants are placed in the upper jaw when there is insufficient bone to support standard dental implants. They provide great support for bridgework and allow the clinician to provide the patient with an immediate fixed bridge the day of surgery. These implants are quite longer than standard dental implants, as they need to anchor in the cheekbone also called Zygomatic bone. This procedure serves as an alternative to complex bone grafting procedures, enabling patients to receive new teeth in a day. Dr. Daniel has been providing this treatment since 2008 and remains one of the few clinician offering this treatment option in Atlantic Canada. Did you know? Have you ever been told that you need a bone graft? The Zygomatic Implant has become a viable solution for patients without severe bone lost which don t want to go thru grafting procedures.
Quad Zygoma Surgery In some extreme cases, the upper jaw may be deficient in bone even in the interior region. If this is the case, two Zygomatic implants may be inserted on each side of the face in order to support a full set of upper replacement teeth. Benefits of the Zygomatic Implants No need for bone grafting. Eliminates dentures and provides fixed teeth. Immediate delivery and teeth in a day. High success rate.
Pre-Operative Procedure All-on-4/Zygomatic Implants Examination Clinical assessment of your oral and facial structures allows the surgeon to formulate a treatment plan that best suits your needs. Consultation Diagnostics A scan is performed in order to obtain a 3D image of your jaw bone and determine the best treatment option. Work Up/ Planning Using a 3D planning software, we are able to obtain a blueprint of your jaw prior to the actual surgery-taking place. This step allows the surgeon to optimize implant placement and enhance the surgical outcome.
Treatment Process All-on-4/Zygoma Implants Implants Following extraction of teeth (if needed), the jawbone is reshaped and the implants are immediately placed. Once the implants are inserted, the wound is closed with dissolvable sutures. Fabrication of the temporary fixed bridge Following insertion of the dental implant, a fixed bridge is fabricated and immediately inserted. This temporary bridge allows the patients to regain his chewing capacity and start functioning immediately after surgery. Fabrication and delivery of the final bridge Four months later, the temporary bridge is replaced with the final bridge. *Dr. Nach Daniel performs the All-on-4 and Zygoma surgeries at East Coast Oral Surgery with Dr. Samer Abi Nader (Prosthodontist). They have successfully completed over 450 cases in the last 10 years.
Follow up The first follow-up visit is usually 7 to 10 days after surgery. Dr. Daniel will remove any residual stiches and will go over hygiene instructions. We will show you several methods, which will allow you to clean your teeth and maintain good oral health. During this time, you might feel that the teeth are solid and fully functional, but it remains important to follow a soft diet (pasta, eggs, etc) for the first 3 months to make sure that the Implants heal properly. Once Dr. Daniel has confirmed that the implants have integrated successfully (usually during the 4-month review), you can start eating all types of food. Regular maintenance is important but quite easy. Review and Maintenance 4 months after the surgery has been completed, we will have a review of your mouth to make sure the implants have integrated successfully with the bone and fine-tune your teeth if required. It is also at this time that we review the bridge with the laboratory if need be. This review and any laboratory adjustments are part of the package and an extension of our great service to you. *Important note: We always work with your referring dentist and hope this guide help ensure that you get the most out of your teeth.
