The Wimbledon Beaumont Residents Newsletter November 2014 News from Manager Mr. Paul Hart By the time you receive this newsletter we will be into November but as I sit here at my desk writing this introduction with the sun streaming through the window glass and a clear blue sky, it is difficult to believe this (27th October - in case the weather takes a drastic turn for the worse and you all think I have lost it)! With Christmas approaching I always take this opportunity to reflect on the many residents who have sadly passed away this year. Each of our residents is very unique to us and when I read the life stories and hear from family and relatives on the many fascinating and poignant events and occasions that they have experienced and lived through in their lives I am mindful of the trust that family place in us to make Wimbledon Beaumont a safe, comfortable, respectful and compassionate place to live. Now I am not that naïve to think that we get it right all the time and I am mindful that family are empowered to tell me when they feel we should be doing better and for my part that dialogue is absolutely essential. My door and that of Matron s is always open and you can also always contact me by telephone 020 8944 8299 or email; paul.hart@barchester.com if there are any matters you want to discuss. You will all no doubt have noticed that we are refurbishing many communal areas and rooms in the home. The lower dining room is next on the agenda. The program is a 5 year plan so there will more projects to enhance our facilities in 2015. We have now established a committee for dining and I will be scheduling our first meeting in November but I will give sufficient notice so you can get any agenda items to committee members before the meeting. I also want to consult
with you all as to whether you would like to have a resident committee chaired and comprised of just residents and relatives that would meet and make recommendations to management. If you feel the need for such a committee let me have your thoughts in writing or email. I look forward to welcoming many of you at our Christmas Parties on 16 th and 17th December and wish you all a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year. My best wishes, Paul Hart Mr Paul Hart and Miss Anne-Marie Brown-O Connor, receiving an Award from the Mitcham and Morden Work Experience Scheme, presented by local MP Siobhain McDonagh (Centre). A triple 10 year service Celebration! We are proud to announce that three members of our staff are each celebrating having worked at The Wimbledon Beaumont for ten years. Pictured with Manager Mr. Paul Hart (Centre) they are (from left) Mr. Paul Christopher, Activities Organiser; Miss Alma Algodon, Senior Carer and Home Trainer; and Mr. Danny Arquelada, Head of Housekeeping.
Welcome to all new staff members and sshhh we are also delighted to announce that 2 of our members of staff are expecting the patter of tiny feet! Welcome to new Residents Silver Surfing We asked Wimbledon Beaumont Resident Mrs. Mary Reynolds how she is getting on with her new Kindle, one of the gifts she received for her 95 th Birthday in July this year. I thought I was too old to learn, she told us, but Paul (Activities Organiser Paul Christopher) has a lot of patience. I keep in touch with all my grandchildren all over the world including Bahrain, Florida, Ireland and the UK. Mrs. Reynolds enjoys emailing family and friends, using Apps for Maps and looking up information. I ve learned so much on the Internet. It s like being able to go to school again - I can look up anything that interests me. And, she adds with a smile, I love Facebook. Here are some photographs from our recent activities. Some brave residents and staff got up close and personal with creepy crawlies! Here are some of our Residents relaxing with a cuppa after a wander round the garden centre.
A late summer barbecue Birthday Celebrations and a very funny Entertainer
Upcoming event: Halloween fun! Mrs. Marjorie Britten will be celebrating her 106 th Birthday this December! Christmas Parties The festive season is fast approaching and we have set two dates, 16 th and 17 th December, for Christmas celebrations for our residents, relatives, friends and professional colleagues. The evenings will commence with a buffet served at around 6pm and are a great opportunity to get to know people. Entertainment will be provided on both evenings by popular and talented violinist Victoria. Please let Reception know when and how many guests are coming. p.s. On 17 th December we will be having a staff meeting. We get a very high turnout at staff meetings and we also give all staff attending a raffle ticket with a chance to win a variety of prizes with a top prize of cash or a plasma flat screen television. We had thought that it would be a great idea if more staff could go away with a present and asked residents and family if they would like to donate a prize for the raffle. We were overwhelmed at your generosity and as a result, last year all our staff received a gift! So if you would like to donate a prize this year, we would be delighted to accept. As many of you know we also have a staff fund that receives donations throughout the year and we then buy staff store vouchers at Christmas with the proceeds but for those who like to see our staff put on weight, a tin of celebrations always goes down well!
