Application Preventol CMK 40 is an aqeuous alkaline preparation of p-chloro-mcresol (Preventol CMK). This active ingredient has a broad and balanced spectrum of activity covering gram-positive and gramnegative bacteria, mould fungi and yeast. It is particularly effective against putrefactive bacteria and is therefore suitable for use in products which are difficult to preserve (e.g. protein-based formulations). Table I shows the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) in mg/l of the active ingredient p-chloro-m-cresol (Preventol CMK) in nutrient agar contaminated with various organisms. Preventol CMK 40 is miscible with water in any ratio. It is best mixed into the aqueous part of the product to be preserved but can also be incorporated into the ready-to-use product. Regarding the use of Preventol CMK 40, it should be noted that unlike Preventol CMK, this product is anionic. Incorporation into nonpolar products such as mineral oil based metal-working concentrates is therefore not possible with Preventol CMK 40 in most cases. Table II gives fields of application and guide additions for Preventol CMK 40. The large number of preservation problems occurring in practice mean that preliminary trials for testing compatibility and microbiological effectiveness should be carried out for every new application. 3/8

The precise application concentration should therefore be determined in tests carried out under the conditions of application. 6/8
