Wimberley Lions Club Club President Lonnie Duke E-mail: lonnie.w.duke@gmail.com 126 Augusta Lane, Wimberley, TX 78676 Editor Dan Williams E-mail: Dan.rr12@gmail.com 12 Palmer Lane, Wimberley, TX 78676 Dist. Governor Gary Cocanougher made his official visit to the Wimberley Club October 18 in local donations to sixteen local organizations and inducting our newest Lion Gary Politte. Lion s Mobile Health Screening sets up at the Methodist Church Health Fair District Governor Gary Cocanougher inspired our membership with stories about his experiences at the Lions International Convention. DG Gary provided interesting information about Lions international, the District, and the Wimberley Lions Club. He said there are currently 1960 Lions in 54 clubs in our District. He has a goal of 2,000 members before his term ends in June. He wants the Wimberley Club to reach 200. He is putting special emphasis on getting his under 20 member clubs up to 20 or higher. He also wants each club to work hard on member retention and finding signature projects. The successful clubs have that ingredient like our Market Days and Buda s Wiener Dog Races. His goals are the same as his motto this year which is Vision of Dreams. So, we all need to work to make the DG s Vision of Dreams a reality by June, 2012. The Governor observed our club handing out $ 21,800 Wimberley Lions staffed health screening equipment owned by the Lions Clubs in our District. Here we have several Lions at work at the Methodist Church Health Fair. Lions Bo Harrison, EJ & Carol Josephson, Meta Wilson, Aurora Lebrun, Gene Germain, Jerry Mackin and John Lyon ran 4 tests. Testing included blood pressure, blood sugar, visual acuity and glaucoma. Those who tested out of the normal were advised to see a professional medical provider. The church raised funds for Habitat for the Humanities.

Page 2 LION VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY! Saturday, November 12th at Noon Guiding Lion Training Certificate Presented to Lion Dan Williams at the Lions Field Pavilion You are one of the most valuable assets we have in the Wimberley Lions Club. We want to show our appreciation for your dedication and hard work by hosting an event just for YOU and your immediate family. We will provide a BBQ meal and drinks, including beer (but you must have ID to prove you are over 21). We need to know how much food to provide, so you MUST RSVP to Lee Gibson at leegibson@austin.rr.com or at 847-0207 or Bev Nesmith at beverlynesmith@msn.com or at 847-5640 RSVP - NO LATER THAN NOVEM- BER 1, 2011 You must be present to win door prizes! Two Guiding Lions are assigned to newly formed Lions Clubs to mentor its leadership during the first two years to assure success. LCI has developed a web based selfstudy course. It is combined with a four hour structured group session of the issues and an exam. Governor Cocanougher presented a certificate to Lion Dan for completing these requirements.. Sometimes It s a Failure to Communicate Can you Help? Communications is very important with an organization the size of the Wimberley Lions Club. No single venue will be effective for everyone. We need help with our communicating. We can use help writing articles describing our events, highlighting various club members, letting the club get to know new members, covering meetings. We need someone to fill in taking pictures of meetings and events. We need someone to print and mail copies of the Newsletter to the dozen Lions without e-mail. Most importantly, we need your ideas of how we can better communicate to the club members. Let me know if you want to be on this committee and help with these tasks. You do not need to be technical! Page 4 $21,800 given to Sixteen Organizations to Start the Fall Donations The Wimberley Lions Club handed out checks to local organizations to support youth and community needs. $1,000 of these funds went to help those who lost from the local Forrest Fires. This is part of our fall donation budget of $112,950. Additional checks will be given out next month. Funds also go to programs to fund scholarships, youth exchange program, Texas Lions Camp, leader dog program, and the prevention of blindness. Where to get Information. She gave them each a list of tasks to perform. Then the fun began: Marching around the table They were sent out to the four corners of the room. Getting the Lion Boss to approve the list of tasks.
