Friedman, MD, PhD 9:30 a.m. Research Initiatives- Laurel Fisher, PhD The USC Acoustic Neuroma Center is a leading provider of care for Acoustic Neuroma patients. During this session, we will discuss both existing information and research into vestibular schwannomas and also share our exciting future research initiatives. 10:00 a.m. Coping and Caregiving- Kris Siwek and Dawn Fishback, PA-C, BA The diagnosis of an Acoustic Neuroma can seem both isolating and overwhelming for both patient and their caregivers. During this session, we will discuss strategies for positively dealing with the physical and emotional stress of the treatment journey. 10:30 a.m. Coffee Break [15 min] 10:45 a.m. Hearing Preservation and Restoration-Rick Friedman MD, PhD and Elina Kari, MD Acoustic Neuroma tumors frequently affect a patient s hearing: often it is the symptom that leads to diagnosis. However, in many cases and now with earlier detection, prolonged hearing preservation is a priority and an attainable goal of treatment. We will discuss factors that are considered when deciding treatment approach and success rates. We will also review existing hearing aid options that are available to patients with profound or complete hearing loss in their affected ear (Single-Sided Deafness) and how these devices work to improve quality of life. 11:15 a.m. Balance- Robbin Howard, PT, DPT, NCS Vestibular rehabilitation is a critical component to the well-being of every AN patient regardless of stage of treatment. This session is designed to help you better understand the complexities of the intricate balance system and how it is impacted by this tumor. We will also review exercises that can be done at home and ways to incorporate them into your everyday life! 11:45 a.m. Radiation - Nicholas Trakul, MD Radiation is a frequently used therapy for the management of an acoustic neuroma. We will review the difference in available technologies, treatment candidacy, research and success rates, and what to expect during and post radiation treatment. Laurie Eisenberg, PhD 12:15 p.m. Nutrition- Jaynita Patel Registered Dietitian A healthy diet during the recovery from a craniotomy and also in the management of symptoms of an acoustic neuroma is highly beneficial. Find out how you can incorporate a diet that can optimize your brain efficiency, improve stamina and promote recovery! 12:40 p.m. Lunch [80 mins] Review of Rare Artifacts: The Evolution of Otolaryngological Care Over the Centuries 2:00 p.m. Acupuncture - Ouyoung, Lai Acupuncture is an ancient practice in Chinese medicine used to relieve pain and treat certain health conditions. We will review how this complementary therapy may be beneficial in treating the unique needs of individuals diagnosed with an AN.

2:30 p.m. Meditation- Jason Gorenstein Preparing for and recovering from surgery can be a very stressful time for a variety of reasons. Meditation has been shown to play an important role in strengthening the body s immune system and regulating moods. In this session, we will explore the ways incorporating meditation into daily life can promote relaxation and feelings of well-being. 3:00 p.m. Fitness for Life - Paula Liddiard and Steve Kwait Dizziness and unsteadiness are common side effects of AN. For some, it can make the idea of engaging in various types of exercise seem out of reach or overwhelming to overcome. Listen in as our recent patients and fitness guru s share how they returned back to their active lifestyles, their suggestions for types of exercise and their tips for modification to ensure safety and enjoyment of your favorite activities! 3:30 Breakouts Hearing Device Demonstration Have you been wondering what hearing aid options may be available to you and how they work?
