Deb Liukaitis put together a slide show of all the Canada 150 events: June meeting, June 27 th Celebration and July 1 st parade, which was shown at the break. Pete Liukaitis has copies of the slide show of Our Canada, shown at the June meeting at a cost of $2.00 Brenda Andrews is looking for someone to take over the archives. Our club is still looking for a new Social Chair for the upcoming year. Upcoming events were briefly discussed and future events were displayed on the screen. Joe/Moose Mohren won $57.50

3 Guest Speaker: Marian Ritchie: The Long Way Home, A Journey Through Alzheimer s Dave McMillan introduced Marian Ritchie and gave a brief bio. Marion explained how she coped with her husband s Alzheimer s and why she wrote a book to help other caregivers on their journeys. Marion told us that today seniors, it seems, are more afraid of Alzheimer s than death. She learned to survive through her failures, mistakes and successes. Marian related some humorous incidents and explained that a sense of humour is what helped her most to survive. Public humiliation is difficult and so caregivers often stay at home and become very isolated and lonely. The best thing you can do for an Alzheimer caregiver is to let them know that you are there for them. Without knowing it, people can be judgmental and cruel, so we should always try and treat Alzheimer s patients the way we would like to be treated. Marion reminded us that our life is our own to live and what we do with it is our choice, but what we do with it is also our gift to God and mankind. Margo McNamara thanked Marian for coming and sharing her story, explaining the family s dilemma so beautifully, and presented her with a gift.

4 Butter Tart Recipe from PROBUS "Canada 150 Celebration' 3/4 cup lightly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup maple syrup 1/3 cup melted butter 2 eggs 1/2 tsp. salt Small pinch cream of tartar 1 cup presoaked raisins Blend sugar, syrup, butter. Add eggs, salt, and tartar and whip on high speed. Squeeze excess moisture from raisins, and place in bottom of tart shells. Pour mixture over raisins. Bake @ 375* for 17-19 min. Remove from oven, and cool. I baked mine on cookie sheets rather than in muffin tins, and like the way the shells cooked. Enjoy! Judy McCoubrey
