RECRUITMENT PROCESS PRIMARY CARE PARAMEDIC November 2017 Dear Prospective Employee, Thank you for your interest in employment with our land ambulance service. The information below is designed to outline the recruitment process for Primary Care Paramedics with the Kenora District Service Board s (KDSB s) Northwest Emergency Medical Services (NWEMS) team. The timelines provided are meant to serve as a guideline only and are subject to change. Part 1 - Job Postings Current employment opportunities will be posted on our website. Individuals not currently employed by the Kenora District Services Board are only eligible to apply for those jobs listed under External Opportunities. Part 2 - Applications Applications for Primary Care Paramedics will only be accepted up to the closing date and time provided on the job posting. Please note that the majority of the District of Kenora falls into the Central Time Zone. All applications must include the completed Primary Care Paramedic Employment Application accompanied by your cover letter and resume. Applications are to be submitted via the methods listed in the job posting. Part 3 - Pre-Employment Testing Only those applicants shortlisted will be contacted to participate in Part 3 Pre-Employment Testing. Part 3 will take place in Dryden, the most central the communities we serve. All components of Part 3 and will be completed over 1 day. Part 3A - Interviews You will be asked a series of questions related to the duties and competencies required of a Primary Care Paramedic. These will be a combination of knowledge-based, situational, and/or behavioural interview questions. Part 3B - Practical Scenarios You will be given various scenarios and be required to complete them in the time allotted. All scenarios will be formed using the new and updated (as of December 11, 2017) Basic and Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards. Part 3C - Written Exam You will be given a written exam and will be expected to complete it within the allotted time frame. The written exam will be monitored. RECRUITMENT PROCESS PRIMARY CARE PARAMEDIC (a) Primary Care Paramedic College Diploma or a letter from the College confirming your Graduation Date (b) AEMCA Certificate or letter of registration to write AEMCA testing a. If AEMCA pending, a copy of valid First Aid Certificate must be provided (c) Current CPR-HCP Certification (Must meet the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation Guidelines) (d) Valid Ontario Class F Driver s License (front and back) (e) Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) mandatory training record or letter from college confirming mandatory training was received (f) Driver s Abstract - 3 year search issued within the last sixty (60) days (g) Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening (issued within the last 90 days) (h) A passport quality photo (i) An immunization/communicable disease report providing (refer to attached sample forms and the Ambulance Service Communicable Disease Standards): a. proof of immunization and Serology as outlined in Table 1, Part A b. proof that you are free of communicable diseases as listed in Table 1, Part B, which includes confirmation of the following: i. Measles, Mumps, Rubella ii. Diphtheria, Polio iii. Chicken Pox iv. Hepatitis B v. Tetanus (issued within last 10 yrs) vi. Influenza vii. Pertussis Any documentation from any applicant who does not advance to Part 4 of the hiring process will be destroyed or returned to the applicant. If you wish the documentation to be returned to you if you are unsuccessful, please bring a self-addressed stamped envelope. Part 4 - Reference Checks Reference checks will only be conducted for those candidates who successfully completed Part 3 of the recruitment process. We anticipate completing reference checks the week immediately following the completion of Part 3 which is the reason for requesting references as part of the Application process. To ensure timely completion of reference checks, please ensure your references are available during this time period and provide their e-mail contact information wherever possible. Part 5 - Conditional Offers of Employment Conditional offers of employment will be made following the completion of the reference checks. The offer of employment is conditional upon successful completion of Base Hospital certification which is through the Northwest Regional Base Hospital Program ( NWRBHP ) based in Thunder Bay, as well as providing all of the documentation listed in Part 3D. Part 6 - Orientation Upon successful completion of initial orientation and certification with the Northwest Regional Base Hospital Program in Thunder Bay, there will be an orientation with the KDSB. Orientation will take place at the Kenora District Services Board s Administration Office, 211 Princess Street, Dryden, in the boardroom. All candidates must be successful throughout the orientation process, including Base Hospital testing, to be employable by the KDSB - NWEMS. Ambulance Service Communicable Disease Standards Part A Vaccine Preventable Diseases The operator of each ambulance service shall ensure that: 1. Each EMA and paramedic hold a valid certificate signed by a physician that: a. states that the EMA or paramedic is immunized against each of the diseases set out in Table 1 Part A; OR b. states that, i. such immunization is medically contraindicated, ii. iii. there is laboratory evidence of immunity (applicable only for Varicella [Chickenpox], Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Hepatitis B), or there is medically documented diagnosis or verification of history (applicable only for Varicella [Chickenpox]). 2. Each paramedic student, prior to commencing any clinical experience within the service, hold a valid certificate signed by a physician that: a. states that the paramedic student is immunized against each of the diseases set out in Table 1 Part A; OR b. states that, i. such immunization is medically contraindicated, ii. iii. there is laboratory evidence of immunity (applicable only for Varicella [Chickenpox], Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Hepatitis B), or there is medically documented diagnosis or verification of history (applicable only for Varicella [Chickenpox]). Table 1 Part A outlines the mandatory immunization requirements for each EMA, paramedic or paramedic student as required by clause 6(1)(h) of O. Reg. 257/00 under the Ambulance Act. Part B Communicable Diseases The operator of each ambulance service shall ensure that: 1. Each EMA, paramedic and paramedic student shall be free from communicable diseases set out in Table 1 Part B. Table 1 Part B outlines the communicable diseases from which each EMA, paramedic or paramedic student must be free as required by clause 6(1)(g) of O. Reg. 257/00 under the Ambulance Act.
