Dunedin Gymnastic Academy GYM FOR ALL Recreational GymSports Programs Information Pack

FUN, FITNESS & FUNDAMENTALS! Welcome to Dunedin Gymnastic Academy and the Gym For All programme! Gym for all (GFA) is about movement discovery, creativity, enjoyment and is all inclusive. Promoting fun, health and wellbeing. Gym for all offers everyone the opportunity to explore movement from preschoolers through to adults! We hope that this information pack helps to answer the questions you have about our recreational gymnastic programs. GYM FOR ALL PROGRAMMES Play Gym: The pre-school program is set up for pre-schoolers (under 5s), to have fun, explore and be challenged! PlayGym is a fantastic program that enhances childrens coordination, confidence and rhythm through a variety of fun activities, utilizing specialized pre-school equipment. Parents must be actively involved and closely supervise their children within our PlayGym classes. Kiwi Gym Fun: This class is designed for children aged 5-8 years starting out in gymnastics. The program is focused around the 7 fundamental movement patterns spring, landings, swing, locomotion, statics, rotation & manipulative (rope, ball, and hoop) skills. Gymnasts work towards the 6 Kiwi Gym Fun badges & certificates. Gym Sports NZ Incentive Award Programme: - Junior (7-10 yrs) & Senior (10-16 yrs) Sport Gym This program is designed for those 7years+ who would like to further develop their skills in gymnastics, trampoline or aerobics. Gymnasts learn skills, routines and conditioning activities throughout the year. There are 7 levels in the Incentive Award programme and participants work through the badge skills at their own pace. This is the program for our Sport Gym Gymnasts: Term 1: Sport Gym gymnasts learn Artistic Gymnastics Skills/Routines (Vault, Bar, Beam & Floor) Term 2: Sport Gym gymnastis learn Trampoline and Double Mini Trampoline Skills/Routines Term 3: Sport Gym gymnasts learn Artistic Gymnastics Skills/Routines (Vault, Bar, Beam & Floor) Gymnasts can participate in the Gymsport Festival event performing these routines Term 4: Sport Gym gymnasts learn Aerobics and Display Gymnastics (Rhythmic and Cheerleading) DGA Programs: - Parkour/Free Running - Sport Fit - Open Adults Gym These programmes have been designed and developed by the club. They are suitable for older children, teens and adults. DGA CLASS INFORMATION Clothing & Equipment Participants should wear close fitting, stretchy clothes that allows easy movement. T-shirts, singlet tops, shorts or footless tights are ideal. Leotards of any design may also be worn. In the winter months poly-props and tights/track pants are highly recommended. Jeans, skirts and clothing with a buckle or zip are not permitted in the gym as these items can get caught and damage out equipment. We have a selection of new and second-hand leotards available on the rack at our gyms. Keita McGowan our DGA club manager makes wonderful leotards you can contact her on admin@dunedingymnastics.co.nz to place an order. Participants in the trampoline classes must wear socks. Trampoline shoes are optional. Clothing that covers the elbows and knees is recommended. Long hair needs to be tied back out of the face and all jewellery/watches removed before the start of class. Please ensure that your child brings a drink bottle to their class as we do not have a drinking fountain facility. Location Dunedin Gymnastic Academy has three venues. Please check below to see which venue your child will need to attend: 256B Vogel Street - Kiwi Gym Fun - Boys & Girls Junior Sport Gym - Senior Sport Gym Monday & Wednesday - Recreational Trampoline - Parkour/Teen Freestyle 41 Willis Street - Pre School PLAYGYM Classes - Regional Competition Grades - Sport Fit Caledonian Gymnasium, Andersons Bay Road - Rhythmic Gymnastics - Aerobics - Competitive Trampoline Safety in the Gym Participants are not permitted on the equipment unless supervised by a coach.
