BEGO PMMA Multicolor Processing information for CAD/CAM-produced restorations Partners in Progress

CAD/CAM-PRODUCED RESTORATIONS FROM BEGO PMMA Multicolor High-performance PMMA with color gradient BEGO PMMA Multicolor is an industrially dyed thermoplastic high-performance material with color gradient. It is suitable for the production of crowns and bridges with up to two pontics, including for restorations of a longer-term nature, as well as for metal-supported temporary restorations. The multicolor design has been adapted to the color gradient of natural teeth and thus enables aesthetically pleasing and cost-effective restorations to be produced. Thanks to the material structure, comprising highly developed copolymer carbon chains, the material is abrasion-resistant, boasts good fracture resistance and flexural strength and is also resistant to the build up of deposits. BEGO PMMA Multicolor is ideal for both the anterior and posterior regions. The semi-permanent restorations are available in the color versions M01 M03. Shade chart BEGO PMMA Multicolor restorations are available in three different shades. The following BEGO chart is available for selecting the shades and the corresponding final result according to the VITA* classical shade system: Shade allocation BEGO PMMA Multicolor VITA classical color system M01 A1, A2, B1, B2, D2 M02 A3, A3,5, A4, B3, B4, C4, D3, D4 M03 C1, C2, C3 BEGO PMMA Multicolor colors Indications Provisional, long-term temporary and semi-permanent single tooth and bridge restorations, such as: Crowns and bridges with up to two pontics (incl. fully anatomical) For aesthetic trial fittings Table tops (partial crowns placed on the top third of the tooth and cemented) Eggshell temporary restorations (CAD/CAM-milled immediate restorations) Metal-supported long-term temporary restorations Contraindications Undesirable biological reactions (such as allergies to material components) can occur in isolated cases. BEGO PMMA Multicolor restorations are contraindicated in case of known incompatibilities or known allergies to material components. * This symbol is a commercial designation/registered trademark of a company which is not part of the BEGO company group. 2

INFORMATION FOR DENTAL TECHNICIANS Wall thicknesses / CAD wax-up In order to achieve the clinically necessary stability, a minimum wall thickness of 0.6 mm is required for the objects. The wall thickness should be increased at critical points on the objects, e.g., at the transition between a connector and a terminal pontic. Terminal pontics should not be larger than the width of a pre-molar. Wall thicknesses Treatment Single crown Splinted crowns 3-unit bridges 4-unit bridge with 2 pontics Anterior regions Cervical wall thickness in mm 0,6 0,6 0,6 0,6 Occlusal wall thickness in mm 1,2 1,2 1,2 1,2 Posterior regions Wall thickness in mm 1,0 1,0 1,0 1,0 Connector design The design of the connector is based on the size and indication of the restoration to be inserted. A distinction is made between anterior and posterior bridges. A connector cross section of at least 9 mm² must be maintained. The connector cross section must be increased for posterior bridges, large bridges with successive pontics and/or restorations with a terminal pontic. For bridge constructions with a span size of two pontics, the connector cross section between the crown and bridge units must not be less than 12 mm². Connector stability is achieved more through height than width. Abutment design When waxing up two-piece abutments, we recommend paying attention to the minimum wall thickness all around the adhesive abutment. Please use the measuring device or the 2D cross-section to check the minimum wall thickness. Avoid points and sharp edges in the final design object. For further information concerning the abutment design, please consult the Scan and Design Center guidelines. The document is available on the BEGO homepage in the download center in the section CAD/CAM solutions. (http://www.bego.com/media-library/download-center/cadcam-solutions/) 3

INFORMATION FOR DENTAL TECHNICIANS Metal-supported long-term temporary restorations For stability reasons, fixed long-term temporary restorations are often equipped with a metal core (metal-supported). This type of restoration and non-metal-supported temporary restorations can be produced quickly and easily with the BEGO CAD/ CAM system. For modeling recommendations for the 3Shape Dental Designer*, please refer to the special recommendation for metal-supported long-term temporary restorations. The document is available on the BEGO homepage in the download center in the section CAD/ CAM solutions. (http://www.bego.com/media-library/downloadcenter/cadcam-solutions/) Metal-supported BEGO PMMA Multicolor long-term temporary restorations Table tops Table tops are partial crowns placed on the top third of the tooth. They represent a cost-effective option for allowing a patient to adapt to a new occlusal situation. The procedure is far superior to standard splint therapy, as the patient wears the new bite situation permanently (masticatory cycle, etc.). In addition, this indication is minimally invasive and thus very comfortable for the patient. For further modeling recommendations for the 3Shape Dental Designer, please refer to the special recommendation for table tops. The document is available on the BEGO homepage in the download center in the section CAD/CAM solutions. (http://www.bego.com/media-library/download-center/cadcam-solutions/) Eggshell temporary restorations Eggshell temporary restorations are milled immediate restorations. CAD/CAM can be used to produce this temporary restoration for the patient quickly, easily and with attractive aesthetics and quality. This makes it possible to cut the time required for producing a temporary restoration in half. Thanks to their thin minimum wall thickness, the eggshell temporary restorations can be customized easily and can be used to show the patient the corrected tooth position, tooth color or tooth shape in advance. For further modeling recommendations for the 3Shape Dental Designer, please refer to the special recommendation for CAD/CAM-milled eggshell temporary restorations made of BEGO PMMA Multicolor. The document is available on the BEGO homepage in the download center in the section CAD/CAM solutions. (http://www.bego.com/media-library/download-center/cadcam-solutions/) Finishing of objects The objects produced from BEGO PMMA Multicolor can be processed with a suitable cross-cut carbide cutter or suitable cutting discs for composites. In addition, subsequent polishing of the restorations is essential to avoid plaque deposits. The prepolishing is performed with suitable silicone polishers and goat-hair brushes; high-lustre polishing is performed with a corresponding polishing compound. Considerable heat development should be avoided during the finishing and polishing in order to avoid inaccurate fits after the frames are produced. * This symbol is a commercial designation/registered trademark of a company which is not part of the BEGO company group 4

INFORMATION FOR DENTAL TECHNICIANS Cleaning the objects Due to the high degree of heat development, the cleaning of the objects prior to further processing should not be performed with steam. Use an ultrasound bath with a maximum temperature of approx. 35 C for this purpose. Cleaning solutions are not recommended. Composite veneering The use of composites allows customized veneers. Customization involves the reduction of the corresponding areas to permit a seamless transition to the base material. Only fine-toothed carbide cutters should be used for grinding. The ground surface must be cleaned carefully and wetted with a bonder. Note: It is imperative to follow the specifications in the instructions for use supplied by the veneering plastics manufacturer. Preparation As a rule, anatomically reduced preparation is recommended. The conventional preparation guidelines apply. Cementing Restorations made from BEGO PMMA Multicolor as a long-term temporary restoration are intended for a maximum wearing period of up to six years. All tried-and-tested temporary and permanent cements are suitable for the fixation of restorations made of BEGO PMMA Multicolor. Milled bridges made of BEGO PMMA Multicolor 5
