We re delighted that Macmillan Cancer Support is to be Greene King s first national charity. We re really excited about working with you all over the next three years. Together we can help change the lives of millions of people affected by cancer. We want to make sure that when you re fundraising we re here for you every step of the way. If you have any questions, need information or have an idea for an event, you can contact one of the friendly faces below for a chat. In the UK today, over one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer. It s the toughest fight most people will ever face. But they don t have to go through it alone. The Macmillan team is there every step of the way. From the nurses and therapists helping people through treatment to the campaigners improving cancer care. Our ambition is to reach everyone affected by cancer and we d love you to get involved. From a treasure hunt or running a marathon to a pub quiz, everything you do to raise money during our partnership will play a vital role in helping us achieve this. We realise there are local charities that are close to your heart, but if you would like to support Macmillan as well, we would love you to be involved. So, this pack is full of top tips, ideas and information to help you, as well as a giant scratch card and a bonus ball sweepstake to get you started. There are so many ways to have fun and raise money through fundraising. We ve listed below a few ways we know work well. So have a look through, work with your colleagues and your teams and maybe nominate someone to coordinate your fundraising events. This is just the tip of the fundraising iceberg. There are lots more ideas on the charity section of the Greene King intranet or GK1. And, knowing just how imaginative you all are, you probably have your own great ideas too. So, let s get fundraising. Drink coffee, eat cake: join the world famous World s Biggest Coffee Morning. On 28 September join us for a day of coffee and chat to raise money for those affected by cancer. We ll be in touch with details of how you and your customers can join in the fun. Caption competition Get a photo of one of your colleagues or your manager in a funny pose or situation (with their permission of course) and ask people for a donation to enter their caption. Take up the challenge From head shave to chest wax, sponsored slim to sponsored swim go for something unusual or challenging. Then get your customers, friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you. The more imaginative the challenge the better though remember to stay safe. Find hidden treasure Either by car, foot or bicycle, plot a route and give clues and directions for teams to follow. If participants are using cars, make the winner the one with the lowest mileage or the most points. And please remember to inform the local police of your plans before starting the hunt. Fancy dress From Hawaiian night to Britain s Got Talent (or anything you like) just choose your theme and collect a suggested donation from your guests. You can raise even more money (and more laughs) with a raffle or quiz during the evening. Sweepstakes Whether it s the Grand National, Wimbledon or the World Cup, Macmillan can provide you with sporting sweepstakes that meet all the legal requirements and excitement quotas. And if you prefer the X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing we also have sweepstakes for all your favourite reality TV shows. Once the results are in, divide the prize money between Macmillan and the winner. Macmillan events and challenges Feeling fit? There are many fantastic events and challenges planned each year, including overseas challenges, cycle rides and running events. Teams pay to enter and compete for plenty of prizes while you charge for refreshments. You could also run a raffle and some pub games. Just visit the charity section of the Greene King intranet or GK1 for a selection of pub quiz questions. Car boot sale Got a car park? Then make the most of it and hold a charity car boot sale with the donations per car going to Macmillan. Let s eat Join in and celebrate the nation s favourite foods with themed menus and events to coincide with national food holidays throughout the year. With National BBQ Week, National Chip Week or British Sausage Week to name just a few, there ll definitely be one to tickle your taste buds. Bid for the best seat in the house For any big sporting event, auction off the very best spot in the house. The highest bid gets a special front row seat in front of the TV and free beer during the event. Bonus ball sweepstake Feeling lucky? The idea is to match the bonus ball of either the National Lottery or the Irish Lottery. Wine or whisky tasting Getting your customers to try a tipple and charging for entry is a great way to fundraise. You can get advice and support from your suppliers, or a local club or organisation. Ho, Ho, Ho Christmas is the season of goodwill and good cheer and good for fundraising. The possibilities are endless. Carol singing, Secret Santa, an unwanted gift sale, a tree of life remember someone special at Christmas with donations to Macmillan. Boring though it may be, we all have to do it. Here s a couple of tips on how to avoid the wrong arm of the law. We want to make your fundraising as simple and successful as possible. So we ve provided everything you need to get the most out of you efforts. Paying in/banking arrangements To bank any money you raise, please follow the guidelines put in place by Greene King. You will find details on the Intranet or on GK1. Talk to us We re a friendly and chatty bunch. Please let us know when you have any fundraising planned. This way we can help and advise you as much as possible. Keep it legal It s important to remember that there may be some regulations and legal constraints to work within when organising an event. Please contact Macmillan if you are planning any of the following: Raffles or lotteries Raffles, lotteries, tombolas and sweepstakes are all classed as lotteries under the law and are governed by lottery regulations. Unless you have received something that has been produced by Macmillan, then please contact us for advice. Information can also be found on the charity section of the Greene King intranet and on GK1. Printed promotional Material Any promotional material used to support your fundraising must have Macmillan s full charity name and registered charity number. Don t worry, it s easy to do, just include the following as a footer: Macmillan Cancer Support, registered charity number in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SCO39907) and the Isle of Man (604). Hazardous, extreme and dangerous sports It s better to be safe than sorry, so please contact us if you are arranging any activities that could be considered dangerous for advice and guidance. Collections Collections are a great way to raise money, especially in a busy area. However if you re planning a collection that takes place in a publicly owned place then this is governed by strict legal requirements and must be licensed by your Local Authority (Northern Ireland has slightly different regulations). Before you approach your Local Authority for a license, please advise us of your plans and await approval. Licenses are not required on privately owned land just ensure you have the permission of the owner or business. be.macmillan.org.uk Welcome to the wonderful world of be.macmillan, our fabulous website to support you in your fundraising efforts. Visit our Ideas of the Month section, where we feature topical and fun fundraising ideas each month. If you need an eye-catching poster to advertise your event, a flyer or an invitation, then choose from hundreds of templates and download it to your PC so you can print it yourself. Simple. If you want to know all about the great merchandise we have to support you, then check out our t-shirts, balloons, green wigs and giant green hands. Publicity and PR Promoting your fundraising activity through the media will help you shout about your efforts and ultimately raise more money for Macmillan. You can obtain excellent free publicity for your fundraising in your local media local papers, radio stations and even regional TV stations. On the charity section of the intranet and GK1, you will find DIY press releases that are not only simple to complete, but will also increase your chances of getting publicity. If you have a Facebook page, or you re on Twitter, then make sure you tell everyone about your Macmillan fundraising events and keep them updated. justgiving.com Justgiving is the easy way to raise money for Macmillan and donate online. It makes it simple to set up your own fundraising web page and collect donations from friends and family online. That means no more paper sponsorship forms. Greene King has its own corporate justgiving page, so if you want to set up your own then please ensure you link to it, so that everyone can see what you are doing. It s important you tell us once you have created your page and if you need help setting it up then we re here for you. Photos, photos, photos A picture speaks a thousand words so please take lots of photos of your fundraising activities and send them to us at greeneking@macmillan.org.uk. We d love to hear from you. Please join in and take part in Macmillan s world famous World s Biggest Coffee Morning on 28 September. You don t have to do a thing right now just put the date in your diary. Each Greene King site will automatically be sent a fundraising pack with everything you need to make your event a success. This is our 11th coffee morning now. It started off small with a few friends...and then it grows. We get some friends from Tai Chi, it just gets bigger and bigger, there s some women here from my daughter s dancing. It really brings the community together. This year we ve made about 4,000.
