Aim To increase awareness of Early Help Pathways Objectives By the end of the workshop participants will be able to: Identify various services to provide early help and how they can be accessed Understand where to look for services in response to various needs

About the FIS Fulfils the Information Duty requirement for local authorities to provide up to date information, advice and guidance on services, facilities and publications that would be of benefit to parents, children and young people and practitioners (Childcare Act 2006, Section 12) Information Hub for Children Services in Medway Provides a platform for both universal and targeted support to meet families information needs. Signposting practitioners and families to organisations that are best positioned to work with families depending on their need and circumstances

IYSS Offer Youth Offending Team Early Help Youth Offending Team - Aim Prevent Young People entering the Criminal Justice System Activities Develop further the Triage project to reduce numbers of young people entering the Criminal Justice System Enhance management of risk to enable early identification of risk factors. Instigate identification of Health concerns and Learning needs at initial stages. Review referral criteria for prevention team with partner agencies Deliver elements of the Troubled Families Agenda Develop joint working practices with the Youth Service Work with Police Crime Commissioner to ensure that Home office elements of prevention work and funding are secure.

IYSS Offer Integrated Prevention Service Early Help Intensive Family Support Provide a range of services that are flexible, innovative and responsive to immediate needs of children and their families either directly or through brokerage with other agencies. Youth Justice Prevention Support Provide young people centred interventions, designed to motivate and engage them within targeted programmes of activities, 1:1 or, group work with the aim of reducing their risk of entering the Criminal Justice System. Targeted Youth Support Ensure that children and their families receive, at the earliest opportunity, mainstream public services and complementary interventions from voluntary and community groups that are appropriate to their needs. Groupwork Programmes Groupwork is delivered within all three areas and currently includes Red Hot (anger management), Clever Thinking (decision making) and, Incredible Years (parenting). In addition, the team are in the process of developing two further programmes Boys to Men and, a girls group. Both new groups will incorporate an awareness around sexual health, risk taking behaviours, boundaries and, the problems faced by young people through their teenage transitional years.

IYSS Offer Targeted Youth Support Panel Early Help TYSP is a panel of Children s Service representatives that offers weekly advice and support. Takes referrals from secondary and primary schools, community groups and the police Targets young people at risk of permanent exclusion Referrals need parent consent and a minimum of a pre CAF Panel has been successful in reducing permanent exclusion in Medway along with managed transfers Current TYSP referrals are at increased risk and vulnerability

How to improve a young person s transition into drug services: The role of the referrer: To arrange a 3 way meeting in order to introduce KCA to the young person and help ease anxiety Sell the service appropriately (words such as treatment and counselling might scare the young person) Provide the young person with some service literature If the young person fails to attend initial appointment, referrer to meet with young person and encourage into further appointments If the young person drops out of the service, re-visit motivational tools in order to encourage back into the service so treatment can be completed Make contact with your local worker as required

What s on offer: Following review of the information on the DUST form and the worker is allocated, the young person could be offered: Brief Intervention of 3 sessions offered to those young people presenting with recreational use needing advice, information and awareness. Specialist Treatment of 4 or more sessions offered to those young people presenting with problematic use needing structured planned treatment. Intensive Treatment of 2 or more sessions per week for those young people presenting with problematic use and complex needs.
