COMMANDER S MESSAGE Dear Comrades and Sisters, 2014 wrapped up with our annual Children s Christmas Party. As you can see to the right, kids of all ages came down to the post for holiday fun and treats. Daniel Johnson served as chair this year and did a great job. Thank you Daniel and the many volunteers who made the Children s Christmas Party a success. With the start of the new year, I d like to remind our continuous members that the deadline for paying your dues was on January 1st. To keep from loosing your benefits you can renew your membership at the post or with National. We are sending well-wishes to Gilbert Gamino who has faithfully served as the Newsletter Publisher. Gilbert is facing health issues that keep him from continuing in this position. And, I d like to welcome our new Newsletter Publisher, Tricia Hedahl. Tricia is an Auxiliary member and has a background in non-profit communications. Finally, I hope your holiday was enjoyable and your new year is prosperous. Loyally, Chris Anderson Commander, VFW Post 67 QUARTERMASTER S MESSAGE Hello Comrades, I ve been in office six months now and I m happy to report that the Post is financially sound and we have been able to start a couple of much needed repairs on the building. We recently had a new heater/ac unit installed for the canteen and admin. offices. My main goal as your Quartermaster is to have sufficient financial reserves to support the Post while ensuring that we have the funding to support our programs and maintain our Building. In this regard, we are doing fantastic. My secondary goal is to enrich the Post with programs that provide support to all veterans. 2 The Sacramento Veteran January/February 2015 With that in mind, I am looking for a volunteer or two to help me with a Veterans History Project (http://www.loc.gov/vets/) at our Post. As a volunteer, you ll help me collect and document stories from our members. These stories will be cataloged and sent to the Library of Congress where they will be stored for posterity. If you are interested, please stop by my office or email me at quartermaster@vfwpost67.org. Thank you, Kevin Hedahl

News from Dear Sisters, : LAX TREASURER S MESSAGE After some much needed rain, we are embarking on a new year. We are mid-way into our membership year and hope to continue to accomplish more supportive work for our veterans. All our program chairs are new and we have had so much to learn and more learning to come. We have been working diligently to get our annual member dues paid by 12/31/14. If you did not pay your dues you are NO longer a continuous member in good standing as of January 1, 2015. Please take care of this as soon as possible. We need your help and support. Respectfully, Ruth Torres Treasurer, LAVFW 67 Ethel landsdale Join us for our next fundraiser! Just 50 seats are available for the Casino Bus Trip on Friday, February 6th to Black Oak Casino. The cost is $30 per person. Auxiliary 67 Our Members At Work Members keep the Auxiliary moving Auxiliary members have been busy making donations to support important programs aimed to help veterans and support our community. Tabs from aluminum cans have been collected and donated to the nearby Ronald McDonald House. These easy donations support programming at the Ronal McDonald House as well as our Jr. Girls Program. More than 500 cards have already been donated to the Sacramento Mather VA Hospital program. Cards are distributed to inpatient veterans so that they can keep in touch with their family and friends during what can often be a difficult time. Soup can labels have also been collected and sent to the VFW National Home for Children supporting their mission to opportunities for growth and development in a nurturing community, and by doing so, will serve as a living memorial to all veterans. Auxiliary members donated 400 bars of soap for our most recent Stand Down. The Stand Down event brings many resources for homeless veterans in one place, providing them with basic supplies, health care, and other essential services. Keep up the great work! With your continued help we'll do even more in 2015. 5 The Sacramento Veteran January/February 2015
