NSPS by Asta Technologies, Ltd. The microalgae Porphyridium Cruentum excretes Natural Sulfated Polysaccharides as a protective layer which enables it to flourish even in harsh and extreme conditions. Extensive research has demonstrated that this natural protective layer possesses unique dermatological properties that make NSPS an attractive ingredient in cosmetic products whose beneficial virtues evolved during years of incremental evolutional processes. Asta Technologies has succeeded in harnessing these benefits and is offering this high-value natural ingredient to the cosmetic industry. The Need - Skin Barrier Protection Environmental influences and biochemical imbalance of the skin, unleashed by the ageing process, are the key factors that induce skin damage, which may appear in the form of dry skin, loss of skin elasticity and development of wrinkles. These phenomena are usually associated with damage to the skin's protective barrier, leading to dehydration and a decrease in the skin's natural polysaccharide content. NSPS - Skin Barrier Functionality NSPS possess enhanced rheological properties as compared to Hyaluronic acid. This allows it to retain its structure even after environmental event that causes damage to the tissue, which makes it superior as a protective skin barrier providing low penetration capacity in the stratum corneum layer (outermost layer of the epidermis). NSPS - Benefits in deeper skin layers Beyond its benefit as a protective skin barrier, NSPS extracted from the microalgae Porphyridium have shown benefits observed in the epidermal layer. This suggests that topical application of NSPS has a positive effect on epidermal regeneration and its adherence to the dermis, which could improve the surface topography of dry or aged skin and prolong the effect of moisturizers. The Need - Skin Biochemical Balance Skin biochemical imbalance is caused by the excessive activity of skin-degrading enzymes such as collagenase, elastase, and hyaluronidase. These enzymes activity leads to accelerated damage to the skin's three major components: collagen (a protein responsible for firmness), elastin (a protein that lends elasticity) and hyaluronic acid (glycosaminoglycan, which adds volume due to water retention). NSPS - Anti - Ageing activity NSPS (at a concentration of up to 5mg/mL) excreted by the microalgae Porphyridium have shown to significantly reduce the activity of these skin-deteriorating enzymes thereby providing natural Anti-Ageing protection to the skin. Need for anti-oxidant protection Oxidation occurs by the creation of free radicals at the cellular level. These free radicals are unstable atoms that have an unpaired electron in their outermost shell thereby attacking collagen strands and other cells of the skin s architecture. Antioxidants bind with the unstable electron and stopping it from attacking the skin s architecture. NSPS Anti-oxidant protection NSPS is negatively charged with glucoronic acid which provides its anti-oxidant potency, and thereby its protection from free radicals.

Applications/ Recommended for Claims Decorative cosmetics Skin care (Facial care, Facial cleansing, Body care) Facial care - Anti-Acne Products Facial care - Anti-Ageing preparations Sun care (Sun protection, After-sun & Self-tanning) Antioxidants; Moisturizing Agents; Sunscreen Agents; Antimicrobials; Antiageing Agents; Anti-inflammatories; nonirritant; preservative-free; protections; bio/ organic; moisturizing Agents No solvents, pesticides, or irradiation are used in the production process. Formulation NSPS can be processed either warm (<80 C) or cold, and have to be incorporated into the aqueous phase of any cosmetic formulation. NSPS are stable in the ph-range of 3 to 6. Suggested concentration 0.2 1% NSPS INCI Name (Actives) Porphyridium Polysaccharide NSPS Content and Characteristics NSPS is negatively charged, with sulfated content of up to 9% and molecular weight of 3-5 x 10 6 Da. Typical Composition of NSPS I Carbohydrates g/100g sample comp. Soluble dietary fiber 10-18 Insoluble dietary fiber <0.5 % of total Monosaccharides Carbohydrates Xylose 40 Glucose 5-25 Galactose 20-30 Glucuronic ac. 7 Sulfated polysaccharides 7-13 Safety information This product was produced indoors, from toxin-free, non-gmo microalga, in an environmentally friendly production process (no toxic chemicals used).

Tests Adsorption test AFM analysis reveals that NSPS create a well-organized, compact layer which acts as a cellular shield (Fig. 1) compared to hyaluronic acid which creates a disorganized shield with no adsorbed layer (Fig. 2). the incubation was observed, whereas the viscosity of the Porphyridium NSPS solution remained unchanged throughout the experiment. (Fig. 3) Fig. 3 Oxidative cells test Enzyme Inhibition Tests NSPS of Porphyridium cruentum show high inhibition of hyaluronidase, equivalent to an average of 96.6 ± 0.3% when the NSPS were applied in a concentration ranging from 0.25 to 2.5 mg/ml In addition, an inhibition of 46.0 ± 7.1 % was caused in the enzymatic activity of elastase at a concentration of 5 mg/ml Oxidative damage by FeSO4 was studied in the cell level. Cells treated with NSPS showed the same Lymphocytes pattern as the control sample, as opposed to the cell pattern which was not protected Resistance to Hyaluronidase Test Since biolubricants are subject to hyaluronidase activity in the human body, an in vitro study was performed to determine the ability of the polysaccharide to withstand degradation by this enzyme. A change in Upon exposure of the two biolubricants to hyaluronidase activity, a 70% reduction in. Control FeSO4 damage NSPS Protected sample

Formulation Guide We offer our NSPS products in several forms: NSPS I: Polysaccharide Gel NSPS I+: 100% Pure Freeze dried Polysaccharide Powder NSPS II: Polysaccharide Gel with Natural Preservative NSPS III: Polysaccharides Gel combined with minerals and Amino Acids of the Porphyridium cell content combined with a gelling agent NSPS III+: 100% Pure Freeze dried Polysaccharide Powder with minerals and Amino Acids of the Porphyridium cell content NSPS I and NSPS II can be processed either warm (<80 C) or cold, and has to be incorporated into the final phase of a cosmetic formulation. NSPS I and NSPS II are stable in the ph-range of 3 to 6. makes manufacturing finished products containing seawater possible. ph: Viscosity measurements exhibit a high stability rate for ph level ranging between 2 and 11. Presence of Essential Oils: Essential oils are extremely concentrated products which should be integrated into the formulas in small quantities. Otherwise, they can destabilize the finished products. NSPS III exhibits stable characteristics with different concentrations containing 0.05% to 4.0% Lavender essential oil, without a solubiliser. Emulsions: NSPS III's ability to stabilize an emulsion derives from its exceptional capability to create a network around the oil particles thus avoiding their coalescence which would lead to dephasing. It is thus possible to formulate emulsions without adding emulsifiers. Emulsions with NSPS III show stability with synthetic and Natural oils containing up to 10% oil. NSPS III can be easily used in a wide range of combinations due to the superior properties of the Natural Glucose medium. Viscosity: Typical viscosity of NSPS I, NSPS II and NSPS III at 20 Centigrade is 4000 cps. Presence of Ethanol: NSPS III remains very stable until it reaches a concentration of 15% ethanol. Beyond this concentration the gelling ability decreases. Presence of Propylene Glycol: NSPS III presents high stability up to concentration of 20% propylene glycol. Presence of Salts: NSPS III with NaCl of 1-12% exhibit strong stability. This property
