- 3 - Did you know? Every year 1750 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer in Australia. Thanks to medical advancements around 80 per cent will be cured. However, long and gruelling treatment regimes can put enormous pressure on families. Right now, there are over 8000 families affected by childhood and adolescent cancer. Redkite is there for families from the very moment of a cancer diagnosis, through rigorous treatment and when families return home to their communities. Redkite provides real and practical support; including hospital based support, community based support, financial and education assistance, bereavement support and special family days. Children, young people and families from all major cities, regional areas and remote locations in Australia are supported by Redkite. The organisation receives no government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of the community.

- 4 - Redkite services Emotional support Providing vital emotional and practical support Redkite provides professional support through funding social workers in hospitals to offer real and practical assistance and counselling for families. Redkite also provides Red Bags, a support kit to ease the burden of a childhood cancer diagnosis. Financial assistance Relieving financial pressure and providing stability A childhood cancer diagnosis can have a devastating affect on family finances. Often there is a loss of income as a parent has to give up work to be with their sick child, plus other costs increase. Redkite helps with essential household and living expenses and other payments. Education services Compensating for lost education Long periods away from school and the effects of cancer and its treatment can have a disruptive impact on a child s education, development, and friendships. Redkite s education grants and scholarships assist children and young people catch up with missed studies. Music therapy Helping to manage the pain and stress of cancer treatment Redkite music therapists work in children s cancer units, providing children with a supportive and creative environment in which they can communicate their feelings. Music therapy helps children and young people cope with the stress and pain of cancer and its treatment. Community based support Counselling for families Redkite s community based support services including email and telephone counselling and telegroups are available for the whole family, wherever they live in Australia. Families can experience feelings of isolation when returning to the community so Redkite is there to help, every step of the way. Bereavement support Assisting families through the loss of a child Losing a child to cancer is devastating for a parent, and indeed the whole family. Redkite provides bereavement counselling to help families who have suffered this loss, as well as assisting with funeral expenses in times of financial need. Family days... Sharing experiences and connecting with others Redkite s special Family Days are designed to offer families a support network away from the hospital environment. It enables families to share their experiences with others and to reconnect with their community.

- 5 - Fundraising ideas The suggestions below are designed to help you come up with a great fundraising idea that suits your school. General ideas: Go Red for Redkite day where all the students wear something red and make a donation. Organise a movie day or evening and invite the other students. Host a Redkite trivia night using the Redkite Quiz Kit to determine who really is the smartest student, teacher or parent! Make craft projects in red. Foodie ideas: Big Breakfast Hold a school breakfast get together and cook a BBQ breakfast for students and teachers. Hold a cupcake or cake stall at recess and lunchtime place in red paper pattie pans and decorate with icing. Host a red-themed lunch or afternoon tea. Sporty ideas: Hold a sporting challenge or tournament; mini golf day, cycle-a-thon or walk-a-thon with sponsorship donations supporting Redkite. Hold a Kite Festival - sell Redkite kites and have a kite flying competition. Hold a Tenpin bowling or lawn bowling night/day. Organise a sports game with a red team vs a white team. Musical ideas: Nominate Redkite as your chosen charity at your annual party/concert with the entry fee donated to Redkite. Practise your favourite musical instrument and have your friends and family sponsor you through Redkite s Music-a-thon.

- 6 - Go Red for Redkite Checklist Below is a simple checklist for you to follow to assist your efforts: 1. Select your Go Red For Redkite Day. Anytime in Term two is preferable but you don t have to limit yourself to this timeframe. 2. Plan fundraising opportunities that are fun and creative. You may care to consider the fundraising ideas to enhance your red theme. 3. Engage the whole school community. Consider how the student/school council could support this initiative; invite parents to get behind activities to support your efforts; select one person to take responsibility for coordination for the program. 4. Call for support from Redkite. We can assist by providing Redkite balloons, tattoos for the participating students, posters, perhaps even a speaker subject to availability. Please don t hesitate to give us a call on 1800 334 771 to order resources. 5. Circulate the donation form included in this kit as an additional avenue for raising funds through your school community. 6. Invite the media. Local newspapers love to cover good will stories in their community. It s a great opportunity to highlight your community service, whilst promoting Redkite as your cause. 7. Charge the camera! We d love to see photos of your fundraising effort and use these for promotional purposes with consent of the parents. If the local newspaper didn t send a photographer to your school, send in your own shots to encourage coverage. If any children are identifiable in your photos, please ensure their parents have filled in the enclosed Photo Consent Form and then forward the form to Redkite with the photograph. 8. Review the Fundraising Guidelines. This will familiarise you with Redkite expectations based on state regulations. 9. Get in touch. Please let us know when your Go Red for Redkite Day will be and don t forget to let us know how the day went post event. 10. Fill in the income processing form and send it back to Redkite. Be sure to pass on your fundraising achievement to all those who contributed.

- 7 - Redkite Fundraising Guidelines Your Go Red for Redkite kit includes your Authority to Fundraise. This gives you permission to fundraise on behalf of Redkite for your event. Below are Redkite s fundraising guidelines for you to take into consideration when you are running your event. Once you have completed your Go Red for Redkite fundraising effort, please complete the income processing form and send back to Redkite. Thanks again, good luck and have fun! 1. Fundraising for Redkite 1.1 The Fundraiser will be conducted in your name and is your sole responsibility. You agree to release Redkite to the fullest extent permissible under law for all claims and demands of any kind in any way associated with The Fundraiser, and to indemnify Redkite from all liability or costs that may arise in respect of any damage, loss or injury occurring to any person in any way associated with The Fundraiser caused by breach of these guidelines by, or the negligence of, you, your agents, employees, volunteers or representatives. 1.2 Redkite s insurance policy does not cover events conducted by outside organisations or groups. You will need to organise any insurance at your own expense. 1.3 You must abide by all State/Territory charities legislation and regulations and must apply for any permits and authorities that may be required. This includes all raffles, bingo, vending tickets, other games of chance or any public appeal. Different States have their own legislation, which should be checked beforehand. It is your responsibility to review and ensure compliance with the relevant legislation. 1.4 You undertake that you will at no time represent yourself, including any staff member or volunteer associated with your event, as a volunteer, staff member or officer of Redkite. 2. Financial aspects of The Fundraiser 2.1 The financial aspects, fundraising, raffles, record keeping and management of The Fundraiser are entirely your responsibility and you must comply with any obligations imposed on you by the applicable fundraising legislation, rules or regulations. 2.2 The proceeds of The Fundraiser and a statement of income and the register of all supporters eligible for a tax-deductible receipt are to be sent to Redkite within 14 days of the conclusion of The Fundraiser. 2.3 Individual receipts for tax deductions for supporters of The Fundraiser will only be issued by Redkite if a donation of $2.00 or more is made to Redkite by that supporter. You must keep a register of all supporters eligible for a tax-deductible receipt. If donors full names and addresses are not provided to Redkite, the receipts will be sent to you for distribution. 2.4 The money raised by the Fundraiser should be kept safe and secure and we

- 8 - recommend that you take steps to minimise any possible theft. We suggest the money is banked via direct deposit or a cheque drawn in favour of Redkite as soon as possible. 2.5 You must not incur any expenses in the name of Redkite. 3. Using the Redkite logo and name 3.1 If you wish to use the Redkite logo or name on any materials or products, please contact your closest Redkite office for advice. Redkite staff are available to assist you with the most appropriate logo based on your application. 3.2 Redkite can sanction the use of a line of copy to be included on the material or product stating the relationship between you and Redkite for all your promotional material. For example, the line of copy may read, 100% of The Fundraiser net proceeds will be donated to Redkite. Any material on which it is proposed to utilise a line of copy must be submitted to Redkite for approval. 3.3 You agree not to use the Redkite logo or name except as authorised under these guidelines and any authority to fundraise. 3.4 In referring to or promoting Redkite, you must refer to Redkite as one word. The only other wording that may be used in reference to the organisation is: Redkite-supporting children through cancer. 3.5 You must make sure that any advertising or publicity material you produce is not false or misleading and does not imply that the fundraising activity is done by Redkite or as the agent of Redkite, nor is expressly approved or managed by Redkite. Naturally any publicity material can clearly explain that you are raising money for Redkite, inclusive or exclusive of the costs of the fundraising activity as set out above. 4. Media and public relations 4.1 Please refer to the facts available in this kit for use in media releases. Redkite staff can assist you with media opportunities, materials and media distribution if required. Please call your closest Redkite office for support. 3. Disclaimer 3.1 Redkite reserves its right to withdraw its approval for the Fundraiser/event at any time if it appears that there is a likelihood of the Fundraiser failing to adhere to any of the above terms and conditions, and/or Fundraising Guidelines. 3.2 These guidelines are not legal advice and you are most welcome to discuss your proposals with your own legal adviser.
