Essentials of Sleep Technology: CPAP Titration Course Saturday, September 6, 2008 Baptist Hospital Nashville, Tennessee Target Audience This course is intended to offer sleep technologists a review of sleep disordered breathing with a primary focus on CPAP titration. Course Overview The course provides a review of basic lung physiology and control of breathing. It includes instruction in the recognition and criteria for evaluation of the severity of sleep related breathing disorders for the implementation of split night studies. Common treatment modalities are reviewed. The culmination of the course is a discussion of positive airway titration schemes and methods for improving patient compliance. Newer positive airway pressure modalities are explained and discussed. The AASM reserves the right to cancel the Essentials of Sleep Technology courses and provide a full refund should conditions warrant. General Information LOCATION The Essentials of Sleep Technology courses presented by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine will be held at the Gladys Stringfield Owen Education Center Amphitheater at Baptist Hospital, 2000 Church Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37236, (615) 284-5555. Directions & Parking For directions to Baptist Hospital, visit http://www.baptisthospital. com/_downloads/bhmap.pdf. Attendees can park for free in the parking lot at the corner of 21st Avenue North and Patterson Street or in the 21st Avenue North Parking Garage. Room Reservations A block of guest rooms has been reserved at the Guest House Inn & Suites, 1909 Hayes Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37203, (615) 329-1000. Space is limited, so please make reservations well in advance. The room rate is $92.95 per night plus tax and is only valid until the room block sells out. Reservations must be made by individual attendees directly with the hotel s reservation department via phone at (615) 329-1000. To receive the special group rate, you must identify yourself as part of the AASM group. MEALS Lunch will be served during both the CPAP Titration course and the Sleep, Parasomnias and Nocturnal Epilepsies course. Meal functions are available for registered attendees only. Guests of attendees will not be accommodated during meal functions. All other meals are the responsibility of attendees. RECORDING The AASM strictly prohibits photographing and/or audio, video, or otherwise recording sessions and speakers at the Essentials for Sleep Technology courses. DRESS CODE Dress code at the course is business casual. Continuing Education The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The ACCME mandates that accredited providers only offer AMA PRA Category 1 Credits to physicians. The AASM will issue non-physicians a letter of attendance for activities designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits for physicians. Physicians will continue to receive a certificate indicating awarding of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine will award AMA PRA Category 1 Credits for these courses. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. This activity has been planned and implemented through a joint sponsorship of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST).
