Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) Action Team Volunteering Programme Brighton Drop in Volunteer Pack + Campaign team Volunteer Pack Do you want to live in a world which is more open and honest about sex and relationships, celebrates sexuality and embraces individuality? We believe sexual health education should be progressive, comprehensive and inclusive. If you do too, we d love you to volunteer with us. The CaSH Action Team are looking for enthusiastic student volunteers like you to join our sex-positive sexual health promotion team. CaSH Action Team is the University of Brighton s student led Contraception and Sexual Health promotion service, aiming to ensure that our are aware of and have access to sexual health services, and know how to access support and advice if and when they need it. We do this through campus based drop-ins, outreach, campaign work and activism. We are friendly and nonjudgemental, and we are creative and fun in our approach to peer-led education. Currently we are recruiting to the following roles in the CaSH Action Team, to start in the 2016-2017 academic year: CaSH Campaign Team Volunteer - Brighton CaSH Drop-In Volunteer Brighton These roles are for the Brighton campuses, but we will also be recruiting to these roles for the Eastbourne and Hastings campuses. Volunteering with CaSH gives you invaluable experience in the field of health promotion, as well as essential transferable skills such as communication and team work. CaSH will pay reasonable travel expenses in order for volunteers to carry out their role. Because the CaSH Action Team is a student-led project these volunteer positions are only open to at the Universities of Brighton and Sussex.

CaSH Drop-In Volunteer The role of CaSH Drop-In Volunteer is to run the campus based sexual health and drug and alcohol drop-ins which will run weekly on Falmer and Moulsecoomb campuses. This involves conducting short consultations in order to issue with the Brighton University Condom Card, which is called the BrightSex Card, offering Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea screening, providing free take-away pregnancy tests, offering support and advice on safer sex and drug and alcohol harm minimisation and signposting to relevant local sexual health and drug and alcohol services. CaSH Drop-In Volunteers can also act as Campaign Team Volunteers in addition to their role in the drop-ins. We are looking for 4 CaSH Drop-In Volunteers, who will work in pairs to run the campus based dropins on each of the following campuses Falmer or Moulsecoomb. Please see below for a full Role Description and Person Specification. Hours: 1x 2 hour weekly drop-in (Tuesdays 11:30 1:30 at Falmer, Thursdays 1:30 3:30 at Cockcroft) Students can arrange with their pair to either alternate weeks they do the drop-in, and volunteer for 2 hours every fortnight, or each do 1 hour of the drop-in each week. A minimum commitment of 9 months (October-June) is required in order to fit in with the student calendar. The deadline for applications is 9am on Wednesday 12 th October 2016. If applying for this role you must be available for interview on one of the stated days, and for the of the induction and training sessions listed below: Interviews - Brighton CaSH induction training weekend - Brighton Tuesday 18 th October or Thursday 20 th October Saturday 22 nd October (10.00am-4.00pm) Sunday 23 rd October (10.00am-4.00pm) Drop-in training - Brighton Wednesday 26 th October (3:30pm-6:30pm) All CaSH Drop-in volunteers are subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check (formally CRB). CaSH Drop-In Volunteer - Role Description 1 Run on-site drop-ins 1.1 Issue with the Brighton University condom card, delivering a short consultation discussing basic issues around sexual health and safer sex, and signposting to relevant local services 1.2 Provide free condoms, Femidoms and dams, for who already hold a Brighton University condom card 1.3 Provide basic contraception and sexual health information and support in a friendly and non-judgemental manner 1.4 Signpost to relevant local services 1.5 Offer and encourage Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea self-testing for all under 25 1.6 Use screening tools to assess for problematic substance use, which is associated with poor sexual health, and signpost them to the relevant local services 1.7 Provide information and guidance on pregnancy testing, free take-away pregnancy tests, and signposting to relevant pregnancy/counselling services 1.8 Contribute towards the monitoring and evaluation of CaSH drop-ins and the condom card scheme 1.9 Provide information and advice on drugs and alcohol and signposting to relevant local services 2 Deliver outreach work 2.1 Maintain a friendly, non-judgemental and approachable attitude on outreach 2.2 Distribute resources as determined by the campaign 2.3 Facilitate Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea self-testing where appropriate 2.4 Promote the Brighton University condom card scheme and condom use at every opportunity 2.5 Signpost to relevant local services where appropriate 2.6 Follow CaSH outreach guidelines and other relevant guidelines and policies (see handbook) 2.7 Uphold confidentiality at all times (see confidentiality guidelines in handbook) 2.8 Represent the CaSH Action Team to a high standard at all times 2.9 Contribute towards the monitoring and evaluation of CaSH outreach work 3 Produce information resources 3.1 May work with other volunteers to produce sexual health information resources for 3.2 May work with other volunteers to produce resources to promote CaSH s services 4 Support CaSH Co-ordinator to deliver curriculum-based sexual health training to fellow 4.1 Work with the CaSH Co-ordinator to develop curriculum-based training sessions for 4.2 Support the CaSH Co-ordinator to deliver curriculum-based training sessions to 4.3 Contribute towards the monitoring and evaluation of curriculum-based training sessions 5 Support local GP surgeries to increase the number of under-25s screened for Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea 5.1 Signpost to young peoples sexual health drop-in clinics at key local GP surgeries 5.2 Assist the CaSH Co-ordinator in promoting sexual health drop-ins at key local GP surgeries 5.3 Where necessary, provide support to nurses at key local GP surgeries to enable the smooth and efficient running of that service

CaSH Campaign Team Volunteer The role of CaSH Campaign Team Volunteers is to deliver our fun programme of sexual health promotion work through outreach into the student community. This can include offering Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea screening and also awareness raising campaign work. We are looking for 12 CaSH Campaign Team Volunteers, who will work on campaigns such as Pee4Pizza in halls of residence, and outreach in Przym nightclub, as well as on University and SU initiatives such as Freshers Fairs and Wellbeing week. Please see below for a full Role Description and Person Specification. Hours: This is a flexible role, and volunteers can commit as much time as they want to, however we ask that all Campaign Team Volunteers volunteer with CaSH for at least 10 hours a term. A minimum commitment of 9 months (October-June) is required in order to fit in with the student calendar. The deadline for applications is 9am on Wednesday 12 th October 2016.
