All state boards of Dentistry require both Dentists and Dental Hygienists to complete various hours of continuing education annually in accordance with their state s dental rules and regulations for licensing. The formal continuing education programs of The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry are accepted by AGD for Fellowship/Mastership credit. The current term of acceptance extends from 11/01/2015 through 12/31/2019. IMPLANT CONTINUUM/EXTERNSHIP This course is intended for the general practitioner/ specialist that has had little or no experience in placement, soft tissue grafting and restoration of dental implants. Implant surgery during the course will be tailored to the participant s level of expertise. Course Offering #1 Presented in 3 sessions, over 3 months beginning in April 2017 April 20 23 (Thursday-Sunday)...(Session 1 of 3) May 20 21 (Saturday-Sunday)...(Session 2 of 3)* June 24 25 (Saturday-Sunday)...(Session 3 of 3) * On the second weekend of the course, a staff orientation and lecture series on implant protocols and proper assisting techniques will be held. The assistant(s) will then assist their doctor on their surgeries. Each participant can bring one assistant with them. COURSE OVERVIEW 1. Lectures covering treatment planning, placement, soft tissue management, hard tissue management, and restoration of dental implants. 2. Implant placement in simulated plastic and pig jaws to familiarize the dentist with the sequence of placement of dental implants. 3. Surgical guide fabrication and use with 3-D digital imaging. 4. CD with lectures and articles pertaining to implant dentistry. 5. Implant demonstrations. 6. Implant placement by participants. The participants will be placing implants in the 2nd and 3rd month. Patients may be supplied by the participants or will be supplied by the course. All didactic and surgical sessions will be held at either the University of Tennessee, General Education Building or College of Dentistry Dunn Dental Building.

GENERAL INFORMATION LOCATION: The University of Tennessee Health Science Center Dunn Dental Building 875 Union Ave. Memphis, TN 38163 TIME: 8 a.m. 5 p.m. (CST)/each day PARKING: Dental Patient Lot (O Lot) located southwest of Dunn Dental Bldg. = $3/day. Dean s Lot (N Lot) located behind Dunn Dental Bldg. near the McDonald s is free on weekends only. Like any downtown campus, parking rules and some charges may apply. Decide on your parking plan prior to the course date. Utilize the interactive campus map at www.uthsc.edu/map/ to help you locate buildings and parking. If you have any questions, please call the CE office at (901) 448-5386. TUITION: $7,500. Course fee includes the placement of at least 3 implants per participant. Additional material fees (i.e. Implant = $500) may be applied if the participant supplies his/her patient. A light breakfast and group lunch will be provided each day. CREDITS: 64 LIMITED ATTENDANCE: This is a limited attendance course. 12 max. Registrations will be accepted in order of receipt. PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY & FEES: Attending dentists from the State of Tennessee or from other states, who perform implant surgeries for their patients at the College of Dentistry as part of the externship, must present proof of professional liability insurance and a copy of their state dental license. These documents must be presented to the course director as part of the treatment planning procedure at least one month prior to surgery. Dentists who have not presented these documents to the course director prior to patient treatment will not be allowed to perform surgical procedures. COURSE INSTRUCTORS Dr. Robert Brandt is a Board Certified Prosthodontist who completed his training at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. He has a Master of Science in BioMedical Science from the University of Texas, Houston. For the past 30 years he has been restoring implants with fixed and removable prostheses. In 1990, his interest turned to placing implants as well as teaching the science of placement and restoration. From 1990 until 2005 he directed Prosthodontic Postgraduate training at the University of Florida, University of Queensland as well as Nova SE University. From 2005 to present he has taught implant placement and restoration to the undergraduate students as well as placement to the Prosthodontic Postgraduate and AEGD Residents at The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. (No disclosures) Dr. Martyn Green is a graduate of UCLA, USC Dental School, Boston University Periodontal program and has his Master of science in Health Professions Education from Loma Linda University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is currently the Associate Professor and Postgraduate Program Director in Periodontology at Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine. He is also an adjunct professor at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Dentistry. Dr. Green has lectured nationally and internationally on Periodontology and Implant Dentistry and previously practiced full-time in Beverly Hills, CA. (No disclosures) Dr. Scott Hollis is an associate professor at The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in the Department of Prosthodontics and Clinical Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry post graduate program. Dr. Hollis received his dental degree from The University of Tennessee and his fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Hollis is a Prosthodontist who completed his prosthodontic training and earned a Masters of Dental Science from The University of Tennessee. Dr. Hollis mentors AEGD residents and undergraduate students in the planning, placement and restoring of dental implants. (No disclosures) Dr. Timothy Hottel is Dean of The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry and professor, department of prosthodontics. He received his dental degree from Case Western Reserve University where he simultaneously earned an M.S. in biomedical engineering. After many years of service to CWRU, directing the post-graduate program in Dental Implant Prosthodontics, Implantology seminars, and maintaining a successful private practice, Dr. Hottel relocated to Ft. Lauderdale to join the faculty of Nova Southeastern University College of Dentistry where he was involved in teaching implant courses and co-directed ICOI sponsored implant courses in Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad. In 2009, he moved to Memphis to become the 19th Dean at the College of Dentistry. He continues to be active in research, publications and has spoken both nationally and internationally in the areas of practice management and implantology. (No disclosures)
