Body Galvanic Step by Step The Carlton Professional Body Galvanic machine (CC2313) facilitates a results driven cellulite reduction treatment. Commonly found on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen and triceps, cellulite may be caused by inactivity, smoking and poor diet, hormone levels, age and poor blood and lymphatic circulation, which produces poor elimination of waste products in the tissues. In order to reduce cellulite the body needs to detoxify by eliminating stored waste, fluid retention needs to be prevented, a good diet should be advocated as well as regular exercise to increase the metabolism. In combination with a good diet and regular exercise, galvanic treatments can be effectively used to reduce cellulite. Galvanic is a direct current which flows through the skin. A circuit is formed between the active electrode and the passive electrode, in this case two pads which go across the limbs. The pads should be placed opposite or in line with one another, with the active electrode placed on the area of cellulite. The pads should never be placed diagonally opposite. Using iontophoresis, active ingredients from specific products, such as ampoules or gels, can then pass into the skin on this galvanic charge. For a cellulite treatment the active electrode is always negative. It is the most effective polarity as it stimulates circulation and nerve endings, softens tissues and opens up the pores, as well as creating an alkaline effect on the skin. These effects help to move the tissue fluid in order to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The treatment aims to breakdown stubborn, hard fatty deposits and disperse the fluid retained in the area. Other benefits include an increase in circulation in the area, dispersing of toxins, increased metabolism and improved skin texture. It may be followed by a faradic treatment to tone specific areas or by a manual or mechanical massage treatment to encourage lymphatic drainage. The treatment may be used on most skin types, except hyper sensitive skin. Contraindications include epilepsy, diabetes, pregnancy, heart conditions, very high blood pressure and pace makers, skin diseases and infections, well as direct use over recent scars, bruises, varicose veins, cuts or abrasions. The kidney area, breasts and sciatic nerve as well as any bony areas, should never be treated. Like all products within the Carlton Professional range, the Body Galvanic machine is compact and robust with a stylish look to suit any salon or spa. It is supplied with 8 pads and sponge pouches, 4 connecting leads, 1 set of elasticated body straps and a sample pack of body record cards.
Treatment time: 20 minutes maximum galvanic, followed by a manual massage, creating a 45-minute treatment include client preparation time. Picture 1 Body Galvanic Preparation for the treatment Remove all jewellery and lie client on treatment couch. The skin must be grease free to allow the gels to penetrate. Cleanse the skin using a manual effleurage massage technique. This also pre-warms the skin breaking down resistance to the current. Picture 2 Body Galvanic Preparation of the machine Test the machine and check that the controls and polarity are correct. Check that the intensity is at zero. Prepare the pads. Ensure that the black lead is inserted into the pad which will be used on the cellulite area. The red lead is inserted into the opposite pad.
Picture 3 Body Galvanic Preparation of the pads Dampen the sponge pads in saline solution. Insert electrode pads with graphite side of the pad against the yellow sponge. Picture 4 Body Galvanic Application of gel Apply anti-cellulite gel onto yellow side of the sponge pouch. Place on area of the cellulite to be treated. Place other pad opposite/adjacent and secure in place with elasticated body straps. Picture 5 Body Galvanic Turning up intensity When all pads have been correctly placed and secured, ensure that the polarity switch is on negative, giving a negative charge to all the black lead pads placed on the problem areas. Turn current up slowly to a maximum of 3.0mA. The
treatment should last no more than 20 minutes. 3 minutes before the end of the treatment reverse the polarity on the machine to positive to restore the natural skin balance. Picture 6 Body Galvanic Completion of treatment When the treatment is complete switch off the machine. Turn all dials to zero. Remove pads and any excess gel left on the skin. The treatment may be finished with a suitable massage, faradic, manual or G5, to disperse toxins and waste products in the area.
