BROULEE PUBLIC SCHOOL Cambridge Crescent Broulee NSW 2537 Phone: 02 44716120 Email: broulee-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au Website: www.brouleepublicschool.nsw.edu.au Principal s News Tuesday, 9 May 2017 NAPLAN This morning we started the first assessments for NAPLAN. These will be completed by Thursday with some students who miss papers being given the opportunity to make up the missed papers on Friday. Parents need to look at NAPLAN as just one assessment that occurs on a particular day and does not test everything that a child knows. Please don't stress about it and don't stress your child out about it. If you have any questions don't hesitate to talk to us about it. Mothers Day Breakfast This is a first for our school and we are looking forward to seeing lots of our mums, grandmothers, carers and others this Friday morning, from 7:30-8:30am. Please order online so that we don't waste or run out of food, Mothers' Day RSVP The focus of the morning is to celebrate the wonderful job that mothers do and while there is no specific cost we are hoping that a small donation on the morning will help cover costs. Well done to our P&C for organising such a lovely event. School Payments & Finance As covered in the Scoop on 28 March, the Department is now in the final process of implementing a new finance system for schools in our region. As a result of this, from Friday 12 May we will no longer accept direct deposits into our current school bank account as we prepare to close this account. Upcoming Events - Click on link below to see our Calendar http://www.brouleepublicschool.nsw.edu.au/broulee-ps-calendar.html

Between Monday 15 and 22 May we will not be able to accept payments by cash or cheque. Please ensure that you have made any outstanding cash or cheque payments by Friday 12 May. From Tuesday 23 May, cash and cheque payments will be accepted as before. As of Monday 22 May, we will begin to accept online payments using the DET's Parent Online Payment (POP) system. A button to access this online payment system will be visible on our school's website. This Thursday s assembly at 1.45pm will be led by 1/2S. All families are welcome to attend. Thought for the Week Sue Lowe Principal A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely. - The Twits Roald Dahl Principal s Stickers Pema Keogh, Zek Canbulat, Mitchell Berry, Makayla Hall (2), Tom Canbulat, Demi Sullivan, Sophie Keir, Abbey Flavell, Rafael Dyason, Isaac Floreani, Lacey Jonas, Stella Horne, Kayum Fernandez, Harper Ireland, Taylor Traecey, Mitchell Berry, Archie Jackson, Jasmyn Cooper and Martha Cadman-Wehner.

Responsible Pet Ownership and Dog Safety Sessions Last term students in K-2 attended Responsible Pet Ownership and Dog Safety sessions in the hall. Students learnt how to look after their pets as well as how to be safe around dogs. It was very educational and fun. Dr Patty Rose Upstander Program We are pleased to collaborate with Dr Patty Rose (a primary school teacher with over 25 years local, international and university teaching experience and a PhD in education) to offer the Upstanders (anti bullying) program. The workshops combine learning with fun by using simple stories, games and songs to educate and empower all children to be informed and equipped to stand up to bullying. The Big Veggie Crunch Monday 22 - Friday 26 May Did you know that only 5.4% of Australian children eat enough vegetables? Simply telling them they have to eat them because they re healthy doesn t work. Instead, we want to increase kids knowledge, exposure and positive attitudes towards vegetables. Students will be encouraged to bring a vegetable for Crunch and Sip everyday during week 5. The class that eats the most vegetables will be rewarded There will also be a 'best veggie joke' and 'best veggie superhero' competition running, judged by Belle in the canteen. The winners will receive a canteen voucher Vegetable Week, featuring the fun event The Big Veggie Crunch, runs from Monday 22 May to Friday 26 May, with The Big Veggie Crunch being held at 10am on Thursday 25 May. Congratula*ons Tasman Simons and Darnell Nye on selec2on in the Eurobodalla District Touch Footy Team. They will now a;end the South Coast Carnival on Friday 19 May. Good luck boys
