Job Description Job title: Location: Pregnancy Lead James Paget Hospital/Lowestoft (Travel across Suffolk to other areas will be required) Hours: 37.5 hours Salary: 25,000 pa plus 1% pension contribution rising to 3% by April 2019 Reporting To: Key Relationships: Stop Smoking Manager/ Clinical Lead Smoking Services/Strategic Contract Manager OneLife Stop Smoking Practitioners/ Stop Smoking Training Lead/ Stakeholder Engagement Team/ Maternity Services/ Commissioners Background information: MoreLife deliver integrated healthy lifestyle services as part of OneLife in Suffolk, including Smoking Cessation and Tobacco Harm Reduction. OneLife deliver evidence-based stop smoking support across Suffolk. Our specialist service offers a programme of behavioural support and pharmacotherapy on both a group and one to one basis. The Department of Health aim to reduce the prevalence of smoking in pregnancy in England from 10.7% to 6% or less by 2022. Smoking during pregnancy is also a major health inequality, with prevalence varying significantly across communities and social groups. At a local level in Suffolk we are also aiming to reduce the prevalence of smoking during pregnancy to improve life chances for children Purpose of job: To set up and lead on smoking cessation for pregnant women and their partners/families across Suffolk. The Pregnancy Lead will have an excellent understanding of the wider determinants of health and be familiar with the local community and the key issues affecting health locally. Acting as a specialist lead for smoking in pregnancy the role will be responsible for overall delivery of this service stream ensuring performance and quality standards are met and that improvements are continually made to the service to ensure it meets client, company, stakeholder and commissioner needs. This will involve delivery of evidence-based smoking cessation support along with building sustainable relationships with maternity/other relevant services and establishing referral pathways. A key aspect will be to consider how prevalence of smoking in pregnancy can be reduced in Suffolk and lead action to achieve this The role will also work closely with the Engagement Team Practitioners and Training Lead to ensure consistency of services and training.
Responsibilities: Be responsible for setting up an effective and sustainable partnership with maternity services including referral pathways Establish a smoking cessation service and partnership within antenatal units at The James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) West Suffolk Hospital and Ipswich Hospital Working closely with community midwifery teams Provide support to the Training Lead when required for specific pregnancy training Establish quality procedures for data recording for SATOD (smoking at time of delivery) Be an expert resource for smoking in pregnancy information and queries into OneLife Suffolk Delivery of smoking cessation support for pregnant women and extending this to their partners/ families when required. Offering tailored support including home visit support where appropriate Use behaviour change techniques, goal setting and skills to negotiate change to overcome barriers to achieve positive outcomes Be sensitive and supportive to the psychological needs of participants, and signpost additional support where appropriate Regularly evaluate the success of the programmes and provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement in terms of outcomes Adhere to local and national guidance e.g. NICE PH26, NCSCT guidelines for smoking cessation and smoking cessation in pregnancy Ensure patient records are up-to-date and provide reports, interpreting and analysis of the information in a clear and concise manner Regularly monitor and evaluate smoking in pregnancy against the KPIs ensuring regular communication with the Stop Smoking Manager Attend review meetings when required with the commissioner Marketing and Stakeholder engagement Ensure regular engagement with key partners who will be regularly involved and contribute to the on-going success of the service. Develop partnerships and regular communication with potential referrer s e.g. community midwives, children s centres Liaise with the central team to ensure the appropriate marketing tactics are executed at a local level for pregnant women to increase numbers referred to the service Liaise with the central team to contribute to enhancements in the website specifically for smoking in pregnancy

Person Specification Pregnancy Lead ATTRIBUTE ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE HOW IDENTIFIED QUALIFICATIONS A relevant qualification in any of the following: Health Promotion, Education, Psychology, or a related field OR Equivalent Knowledge and Experience NCSCT training modules e.g. Pregnancy and Post-Partum, Second hand Smoke Application. EXPERIENCE Smoking Cessation Trained Advisor Experience of building and sustaining partnerships Experience of working with adults for behaviour change on an individual or group basis Experience of dealing with people with sensitive medical problems Experience of delivering training Application/ Interview.
