Amazing Donors MCYS Fights Cyber Bullying On Thursday, February 4, 2016, MCYS and our collaborative partner Children's Safe Harbor, had the honor of presenting to the employees of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company on the dangers of online predators and cyber bullying. The Confirmation Program Class at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in The Woodlands donated bags full of supplies for the residents at BridgeWay Shelter. The bags contained a collection of new underwear, socks, pants, shorts, shirts, jackets, school supplies, and toiletries of all types. The class also wrote short notes to uplift our BridgeWay residents. We are in constant need of these particular items for kids who were taken from their homes due to serious neglect and abuse. MCYS greatly appreciates this valuable donation. Jamie Parker, our Certified Prevention Specialist, gave an amazing presentation and explained: "Cyber bullying is the hardest topic to talk about because social media didn't exist when I was a teenager, which makes it hard to relate with the students on this specific topic. The effects of cyber bullying can be as extreme as having suicidal thoughts, especially with students who already have a mental health diagnosis. They cannot see past today so my goal is to help them see there is always tomorrow." MCYS, along with our collaborative partners, provide prevention presentations that talk about topics such as substance abuse, cyber bullying, healthy relationships, eating disorders, teen pregnancy and suicide prevention. "The whole point of prevention is to stop something from happening before it starts. If it has already happened, the goal is to try and prevent them from doing it again." - Jamie Parker
