2016 Highlights USOD moved into our new office space on May 1, 2016! With this move, USOD doubled its space and added a children s classroom, general programming space, and retail store. USOD opened Artful 21, a retail store featuring the works of 13 artisans with Down syndrome, staffed with self-advocates. USOD began the Learning Program in our children s classroom with 4 full classes of our kids from preschool to grade 3. USOD had a record-breaking Buddy Walk at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo with over 6,000 in attendance! USOD awarded 60 Family Grants, totaling over $29,000. USOD began a new partnership with the Cleveland Clinic pediatric department, which is helping us get critical information about our services to parents throughout Northeast Ohio. USOD started a SibShops support program for siblings ages 7-12. USOD was named 2016 Affiliate of the Year by Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action, a nonprofit trade association representing over 80 Down syndrome associations in the U.S. and abroad. What s happening in 2017 Two USOD brochures are now available in Spanish. USOD has rolled out Artful Adventures for middle school students USOD will host the 17 th Annual Buddy Walk at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo USOD is partnering with other local organizations in northeast Ohio to present the Transition Boosters series focused on the transition from school to adult life for youth with disabilities. USOD is working with the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Bryant & Stratton, which is hosting a Baby & Toddler Group for us and providing a student intern for our programs. We are providing the interns with the knowledge and experience to work with young children with Down syndrome in the future. A portion of funds raised go to the National Down Syndrome Society where they advocate for the value, acceptance, and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

Fundraising Incentives For Team Captains and Individuals As a Team Captain, your role is critical to help us reach our fundraising goals that allow us to continue to provide services and support to the 900 families we serve. We could not do all that we do without your support and efforts! Back by popular demand, we are offering incentives for your fundraising efforts. Incentive deadlines are: 6/21/17: Form a team and raise $321 to receive a Team Captain Thank You Gift 7/15/17: Team Name on back of t-shirt and Day of Perks 10/15/17: Individual Merchandise Incentives and Team Captain Grand Prize for +$10K Incentives* are available for: Team Captains (may qualify for both) for $ s raised and/or # of participants on a team Individuals any participant on a team or a participant registered as an individual *In order to qualify for ANY incentive, funds/registrations must be received to the USOD office by the deadlines listed above. National Down Syndrome Society reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value or to change the recognition gift at any time. Fundraising Tips Pick up a Dimes for Downs collection bin from USOD to be used at school, church, local business and more. Any loose change works! Bring your Dimes for Downs coins to the Buddy Walk in a zip top bag with team name on it, or drop off to USOD at 6533-B Brecksville Rd., Independence, OH, 44131. Have your school host a Spread the Word to End the Word pledge signing. Visit www.r-word.org for ideas and facts. Create your own Incentives to encourage your team to raise money (i.e. gift cards, artwork by your buddy, gas cards, etc.) Post the Roster Sign-Up Sheet & Progress Tracker included in the Team Captain Packet, in your office or to local merchants. Encourage all teammates to contact their HR director on how their company handles company Matching Gifts. Host a Dress Down for Down Syndrome Day at your work: Casual Fridays, Team Jersey Day Tuesday, Pizza Party Lunch Day, Crazy Flip Flop Day. Create a Thon with a local hair salon, nail salon or local gym. For every amount of cuts, nails, classes taken, a portion of the thon proceeds is donated to your Team. Share A Story about your Buddy or your Team in company newsletters, church bulletins, intranets & bulletin boards. Work with local stores or restaurants to see if they would donate a portion of the proceeds for a single day/night to your team Dine Out for Down Syndrome (i.e. BW3, Bob Evans, etc.) Organize a Neighborhood Event-block party, bake sale, iced tea stand, car washes with proceeds going to your team. Engage schools, businesses and religious organizations to do raffles and participate in other fundraising efforts for your team. Host a Consultant Party such as Pampered Chef, Jamberry, Posh or others and have a portion of the proceeds go to your team. GET INVOLVED, BE INSPIRED

The Buddy Walk was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to over 250 in 2014 worldwide. Over 315,000 participants have attended and raised over $13 million across the country and around the world to support local programs and services, as well as national advocacy and public awareness initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome. What is The Up Side of Downs of Northeast Ohio? The Up Side of Downs of Northeast Ohio (USODNEO), a 501 (c)(3) organization, exists to provide support, education and advocacy for people with Down syndrome, their families and communities throughout Northeast Ohio.
