About Us A BETTER FUTURE FOR YOUTH AND WOMEN Africa Youth for Peace and Development (AYPAD) was established on 24 October 1995 in Sierra Leone and registered as a non-profit charity with the Government of Sierra Leone in 2000, holding a United Nations Economic and Social accredited Status. It was created by 7 young men who had seen harsh realities being experienced on the entire continent as a result of war and the consequent violence galore which follow. Therefore, they decided to form the organization with the vision of continental integration for peace and development for youths. AYPAD believes in establishing opportunities for young people in Africa through our multifaceted development programs that enables peace, sustainable development, and social integration. Our goal as a non-profit charity is to create opportunities, enable and empower particularly disadvantaged young people, and the marginalized whose lives are constantly under threat because of their deprived economic and social situation. Case Study KNOWLEDGE IS OUR KEY TO DEVELOPMENT AYPAD conducted studies to develop a better understanding on the level of socio-economic well-being of young people in Africa. The studies identified precise profiles of the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of youth in Africa. Covering such specifically selected life domains, which combine to impact on their social and economic well-being, education and skills development, employment, financial independence, access to basic services and health care, capacity to own basic household amenities, poverty, fertility and mortality levels, and satisfaction with life in general. The broader aim was to influence government and international partners in planning and implementation of well-structured and integrated development programmes relevant to the socio-economic needs of youth, enabling them to participate in all aspects of society. Such a motivation arose as a result of a general concern over the well-being of young people in the continent. 08 AYPAD PROFILE
