RESEARCH PROGRAM Current Research: Dyslin, C. & Thomsen, C. J. (manuscript in preparation). Heavy episodic alcohol use and alcohol use problems among college students: What is the role of religious affiliation and orientation? In this study 763 university undergraduates completed a battery of anonymous questionnaires including the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test, self-reported number of binge drinking episodes in the previous two weeks, and the Religious Life Inventory. Results showed that among the 90% of our sample who currently drank, 29% had MAST scores suggesting the presence of an alcohol use disorder and 58% reported at least one binge episode in the past 2 weeks. The adherents of proscriptive denominations in our sample (i.e., conservative Protestants) compared to other affiliation groups, were most likely to abstain and least likely to report both problem drinking and binge drinking. Final regression models indicated that women and African Americans were less likely than men and Caucasians to report problem drinking behavior based upon MAST scores, and individuals high in extrinsic religiosity were more likely than those lower in extrinsic religiosity to exhibit binge drinking, but no religiosity variable significantly predicted MAST scores after demographic controls. Transgender identity development. I am currently exploring identity development in trans* lesbians (female persons who identify under the transgender umbrella as male-to-female transsexuals, genderqueer women, bi-gender trans women, or transgender women, and who are emotionally, romantically or sexually attracted to other women). Specifically, I m interested in how trans* lesbians
